New UK owner of a Yaris TR 1.3 3 door. I have seen lots of Yaris's, new and old in various versions around the Lincoln area. Thought they were very popular.

Hello, i am new here and yes i own a yaris t sport. Yes they do seem to be very few and far between in the UK which makes it hard and expensive to find modification parts for it.

Hello
there are lots of Yaris about here and a few that have been modified. Mine is a 3dr D4d lowered on TTE springs with 17" wheels. it has a PSI powerbox which increases power to 109 bhp and torque to 180lbs/ft...not sure what that is in nm!

Similar speed to a mini cooper...not S.

Hi all

I'm a UK resident and I own a Yaris SR 1.8. Only had it 6months and I'm loving every minute of it.

Just started my mods last month with the K&N induction and I tell you what I've not stopped smiling :-).
Just got a question is their any other mods just for Yaris ie turbos etc

Cheers

Hi all, just changed from a FTO GPX to a Yaris, due to my wifes health problems, basically she could no longer get in the FTO with out complaining of pain in her knee,s, mind you she has a big arthritis problem with her knees. How ever and I know that the Yaris does not have anywhere ne'er the power or speed as the FTO but I keep finding my self speeding through the town, as the little Yaris actually is very nippy and picks up speed so easily, its slightly mad.

Just found this site. Have been driving a Yaris TR 1.33 since I swapped in the old Micra for scrappage in November 2009. Great till the snow started and unfortunately the supplied Dunlop SP Sport 185-60-R15 's are no way as good on the snow as the cheepo Eastern European tractor tyres were on the 96 Micra. Have read quite a bit about fitting steel rims in place of the alloys and getting hold of snow tyres but I can't find any rims let alone snow tyres. Anyone know which Toyota model steel rims will fit an 09 Yaris?

Hello Guys!

I have been part of this site for ages now, and now i find out there is a UK section, LOL. Too busy driving I guess. I have a JDM spec. Vitz TS 1.8 from Italy. I have posted on the TS section of the site few times now, but yeah. Mechanically is stock. Good balance in it. Don't see many 1.8's around the Bristol area. There is one 3 door just around the corner where I live and a 5 door, but thats about all I've seen. Glad to see there is people who love their Yaris......

i'm a bit daft, didn't realise there was a UK section. tee hee.

Anyway, I've only had the Yaris for a few weeks and already I'm smitten by it. Hardly surprising having just scrapped an old Golf without power steering.

It's giving excellent MPG and is incredibly quick for such a tiny engine. It's the 3 cylinder 1 litre version.

I've been told it has electric power steering. I didn't know it existed. In fact I'm still wondering if someone is pulling my leg.

I went down to Halford's this afternoon to try to find the Haynes manual but it only goes up to the previous Yaris 2004.

A member CTScott has an engine manual for the 3 cylinder so I've requested a copy. This is the first car I've ever owned where there's no Haynes manual available. I guess it's too new
regards,
stu

hi i am considering purchasing a 08 yaris D-4D T Spirit
i am currently driving a 2.2 vectra sri 150 estate but crippling fuel costs and not the cheapest insurance costs have made me decide to look at a smaller more economical car, the question is are there anything to look out for including any recalls? would you recommend the 1.0 ~ 1.3 or the 1.4 diesel ?
any info would be very apreciated thanks ~ gordon

Another Yaris owner here, I've just joined this forum because I'm bit of a noob when it comes to cars. My other half, has been driving a Yaris since 2004 and I've been having the pleasure since 2010. We've clocked about 90,000 miles in the Yaris and it had a few expensive repairs to the braking mechanism (think it was something called the brake shoe - need to check receipt to be sure). We thought it was about time to get a new drive, but Yaris just seems to work. So much so, we've traded the old Yaris for the new model on a 2013 plate. Should be here in less than two weeks.

Look forward to discussions with fellow Yaris owner in UK and around the world.

I've noticed that the disc pad replacement item has been removed from the forum. Does anyone know what kind of bolts hold the caliper on. I watched a youtube video and figured all you need is a 14 mm socket and a spanner to undo the bolts that hold the caliper on. However when I came to it there's a rubber or neoprene cover over the bolt head with a plug to stop dirt entering. I tried a variety of sockets to no avail. Then I figured it must be an Allen type bolt and tried a variety of metric Allen keys to no avail. I'm a bit worried of prying the rubber cover off and damaging it. Does anyone know what the correct tool is and whether it's a special Toyota tool. The car is a 2007 3 cylinder model built in France not Japan. The pads are the audible wear warning type and the noise is driving me nuts LOL

chasehouse
03-18-2013, 05:34 PM
I spent ages yesterday trying to find out what you need to remove the caliper to do the pad change. I found out a couple of hours ago.

The new pads are now fitted, and the car is so quiet it's like driving around in a library.

First, if anyone is going to change the pads on the French built Yaris, there are various pads available, and they're not all compatible, according to the spares place I used. You have to fit the correct ones, I hate the word obviously, it usually drives me nuts, but obviously they have to be the correct ones.

The spares place in Bolton where I bought them, had access to all the normal IT stuff. I gave the guy the VIN, my registration number, everything apart from my maternal great grandma's first teacher's maiden name. Very thorough spares guy! Anyway he handed over the pads, and told me he was 99.999% certain they were the right ones.

Fortunately he gave me the correct ones.

The problem getting the guide pin or Caliper bolts out, was solved with an Allen key, 7 mm. For the rest you need very little, but my mate Martin figured it would be best to clean the channels that the pads slide in, and apply a wee bit of copper grease to help the pads move. At 46,000 miles the guide pins were slightly corroded and we put a thin film of copper grease on them too. I wonder if there'll be any electrolytic activity? MDR.

The job is very straightforward.

One thing that occurred to me is that I could have pushed a cylinder-shaped piece of plasticine down the rubber protective cylinder to take an imprint of the allen type bolt. I could then have measured it. Hindsight is so useful LOL

Hi guys I'm new here, picking up my first Yaris from the dealers tomorrow although we do already have one in the family which I have used frequently.

Just posting to say hi and wondering if they are any independent toyota specialists in the Herts / Beds area that you guys recommend.

Can't wait until the morning.
