Hi,

I have a 2013 Yaris, and recently the brake light switch has been going bad (abs and traction control lights on at the same time).

Mechanics have replaced it 4 times now in the last 5 months, the last two times at the dealer. The mechanic at the dealer said that they had it in diagnostics all day, and they found no issues aside from the bad brake light switch.

The problem started when I was driving a highway speeds (50 mph) through the snow, and I hit a patch of chunky snow/ice. The general sound being hitting a series a pot holes at 50 mph. Shortly after the abs and traction control lights went on.

Since the first time, the switch will go bad after about two weeks to a month of daily driving. The abs and traction control lights will go on, then they may go off if the car is turned off and sits for a while. Eventually the problem won't go away after turning the car off.

Does anyone have an idea of what the problem may be?

Thanks!

i have this issue, but mine is a rear sensor. it is a common problem on 06-12, idk about 13 if they have the same problem. the sensor gets a bit of metal stuck to it, and it's a sealed unit so there is not a way to clean it. do you have drum or disk brakes? if drums, it shuld be the same issue. idk though, if you took it to the dealership. they should be fully aware of this issue. i've not heard of a bad brake switch though....
