Have any one done a Yaris SE rear axle beam swap? If you had done one, please give a list of parts I need. Post some pictures please.

Thx!

what, swapping JUST the beam? Most of the swaps are complete off a junker...give or take the 2 ebrake cables.

you can get more info on swapping off this theory thread. my post #5 isnt much a theory, more of a laundry list of what the rear disc setup is made out of.

nothing, really. you might prefer a more front bias again and get an SE brake booster and proportioning valve, but really isn't needed. (i seem to forget if there's something else under the hood related to that booster area)

setup as is, the swap will make your rear brake pad last as long as your fronts.

you can do a corolla front brake swap to balance it out...

na..that's too much. the reason getting rear disc brake cuz it has drum there.

this will be the last mod of my ten years yaris.

i dont know about being too much..at least think about running the bigger disks + SE front calipers later.

Better question would be why do you need rear disc brakes compared to drum brakes?

Because, when glimpsed between the spokes, a disc with painted caliper looks cooler than a rusty drum?

Good point. For everyday driving, the OEM disc/drum brake set-up works very well on this little car.

But, like WeeYari stated, maybe it "looks cooler" with disc brakes on the rear.

Ah, true. Only if it weren't so costly.

Imo if Jason, Tom others can track/race their Yaris' on stock drums, then there's no reason for rear discs other than looks

there's another: ease of maintenance.

adding little bit more weight and get more stopping power.

ease of mainentence and suchs. have you ever seen a drum brake its a pain in the butt to get new shoes on and their is four of them. not just one or two pads like on a disc break caliper.

pads are like what 26 a piece if you go non oem.

changing shoes in a drum is not that bad, if it ever needs to be done. my last car went 338,000 miles on the factory shoes when i sold it. i had purchased them 3 times, and returned them to the store 3 times. shoes last forever if the wheel cylinders do not leak. that is the best benefit. (fronts were serviced/replaced 5x in that time frame)
disks looks pretty, but they require 3x the maintenance...

I was toying with an axle swop when my rear bearings went but i went with new bearings in the end. UK is easy for cheap Yaris spares at this moment in plentiful supply so im lucky with my 1st gen Yaris S the old .rust bucket lives

338,000 miles? Makes me think they weren't adjusted properly.

lol my drum shoes were at 2mm before axle swap..i think it was like 40k miles hahaha. Blame ny traffic?

Yeah, I went 90k miles with mine. About 165k km. Had about 2mm left and only ajusted them twice in its life time. 8 years.

I wonder how long the new ones last. I'm having them adjusted every other year now. And the front brake serviced. They have never looked so great before.

I used to never touch them until they need to be replaced lol

i adjusted them every time i replaced the front pads/rotors. i would even buy a set of shoes. they looked good; i'd clean the drum/springs,adjuster and scuff up the contact surface, and adjust the drag and return the shoes to the store. the contact material is 4mm new. i did a lot of highway driving at the time, so the millage is not that fair. i drove the car often, and accumulated 338,000 over like 13 years...

all the more reason to think about rear discs...just glance at the rear pads and rotors and go about your business :P
