Happened to me all the time when I had the sedan...but it would be with EVOs and Mustangs that wanted to race.
Yeah, the 500 Abarth are quick (unreliable too).

well there must be some reason so many people are running out and buying them over other cars.

Style over substance. Age-old story, and the social-media generation has pushed it to dangerous/sick extremes.

Reliable or not, I'd buy an Abarth in a heartbeat.

For the small car driving enthusiast, this is hard to argue.
Fiat 500 Abarth aren't that fast. My neighbour and I completely crushed three of them at Toronto Motorposrts Park Cayuga. The car was his Toyota 86 with a stock engine...

Fiats get a lot of bad reviews. I'll take reliability over a bit more speed and panache.
Only other small car I would maybe take rather than a Yaris would be a Fit. If price and mileage were equal. Toyotas rule on reliability.

They may not be the fastest, but they're a ton of fun to drive. And that sound!

I think the Abarth sounds terrible! Drove one for a couple of days. It was a fun, very nimble, little car... that I quickly tired of. I was so happy to get back in my "boring" Toyota.

I've had people try to race me in my 3-cylinder Geo metro. Of course, I don't race back (I can't!!). Just goes to show: some people will race against anything.

That's a bummer, but as long as you and yours are safe you'll be able to enjoy finding a replacement Yaris!

My first car, before my Yaris was a Fiat Punto 1.2. It was a 3 door. I got it at 7 years old. 56,000 miles. I didn't get a year of decent motoring out of it. On several occasions it broke down and needed work doing to it. The last 2 months i had it in winter it broke down and refused to start on me 8 times and a few other times i just about barely got it going. No one. Not even the Fiat dealership could tell me what was wrong with it. They told me they could replace this, that and the other for a total of £1200 and there was no guarantee it would be fixed. The trauma of this experience is why i will never drive anything that isn't Toyota or Honda for as long as i live.
I know of plenty other people who have had similar problems with fiats. You might as well take your money and light it on fire. I sit next to an idiot in the office with a 500L 5 door he got brand new from the dealer. All i get is a tale of woe every week about how something else is broke. Water pump broke at 6000 miles. The engine guzzles oil at less than 20,000 miles.

If I was worried about style, I'd put Lexus badges on my Yaris. Instant respect from badge whores.

Hmmm... if I had a Lexus (that was a JDM Toyota), I'd rebadge it with the proper Toyota emblems.

My first Yaris had a Lexus exhaust tip. I hacksawed it off a bent Lexus muffler and had a friend weld it on. Added 14 hp and 500 units of prestige.
