View Full Version : Uneven Tire Tread Wear?

All four tires have uneven tire wear in the center of the tread. Currently the tires are measuring approximately 4/32" on the inner/outer tread and 3/32" on the center tread. I know this is normally caused by over inflation, but they are at the recommended pressure of 32psi.

What could cause this type of uneven tire tread wear?

Should a different tire pressure be used due to going with larger than stock tires and rims? Do tires tend to wear unevenly towards the end of life? Is it possible that these are just crappy tires? Is there a mechanical failure that would cause this?

I would not define a difference of 1/32" as "uneven" wear. This is not something that I would be worried about. You are however nearing the end of useful threadlife for those tires. Not yet, but soon.

^^^ What NYC-SE said.

At this point in the tyre's tread life, you're talking about less than 1mm difference across the tread. I don't think there's need for concern there.

you are in phoenix, and it is hot. your pressure IS higher because of your environment. if you ran at 28-30psi they will run more even, but overall they may wear faster. you will have better traction and breaking. it depends on what your end goal is....
buy a tire with a UTQG of 500(+) A or AA, A and run at 30psi. you will be happy on both sides of wear and longevity....
