Just got Fram Tough Guard Filter+Engine Oil from autozone today.

Can anyone tell me the advantages of Tough Guard Filter and synthetic?

Never changed oil and filter before. I am a learner:) My Yaris Sedan has 10000miles.

Synthetic = more miles between changes + less wear on engine (please correct if I am incorrect)

and also if I'm not mistaken the Fram Tough Guard is ment for higher millage oil changes (5-7,000)

Mobil 1 is a good choice that is widely available. You will see some profess their love for pure synthetics, but those are somewhat harder to come-by, usually online only. As for the Fram filter, i used a couple times in the first few changes, no problems with it, but I have read reports that they are not the best out their. I have since been using the OEM filter from Toyota which I get at the same price as a Tough Guard about 5 bucks.

Thanks a lot!! I am just wondering if it is OK if I use this Tough Guard Oil Filter with the Mobil Synthetic Oil? Someone told me I should go for Mobil Filter+Mobil Oil.

Another question is that my car got 10000miles now and when should I change the filter and oil next time if I use synthetic oil?

Thanks a lot!!

Fram and Mobil-1 are fine together. Fram is not my first choice though. I would reccomend NAPA Gold Filters which are made by Wix. Mobil-1 is a great oil and I would change my oil every 7500 miles, or once a year, whatever comes first.

Thanks! What about the Tough Guard Filter? Can I change the filter every 7500 miles as well?

The Fram Toughguard has a synthetic media with cellulose as well, good for absorbing moisture that makes its way in the oil. Our reccomended oil change interval is 7500 miles, so I think you are safe.

Here is a good read.

you can change your oil every 7500 or so, but I recommend still changing it at 5000 to keep the drivetrain warranty....
another advantage to synthetic is better gasmilage

You can also switch to 5w-20 mobil 1 if you want improved mileage. Toyota put out a Toyota Service Bulitin (TSB) about that oil being a good choice for our cars.

I use Amsoil 5w-30 and Wix filters. Every 5K I replace the filter and top off. Every 15K complete oil change.

I will never again use a FRAM oil filter. On my old ford I put the one that has teflon it it on. A few thousand miles later it wouldn't run anymore. :barf:

i would even go for 0w-20 during a severe winter.......
also: wal-fart's supertech filters are allegedly good quality ( worked on my fleet so far) ----------- they're made by mobil 1
just my $ .02

Pure coincidence! I don't like fram either, but they make a better product than Ford.

The old black label Mobil 1 is Tri-synthetic and good stuff IMO, but I wouldn't push it out to long drain intervals like the Mobil 1 Extended Performance which is advertised for 15K intervals. As far as filters are concerned I have yet to read anything that would lead me to believe there filters are anything more then average.
