Hey everyone. I am a first time Toyota owner. My sibling bought it brand new, and no longer uses it - so it was passed on to me as a commuter car. It is a 2007 Yaris Hacthback, and I noticed that every time I start it, this "cool" light comes on. Seems like it shuts back off within 30-60 seconds, but is there something it is trying to tell me? I see it means the coolant temp is low - but knowing how Ford does it (I am a die-hard Ford fan), I am thinking there must be a sensor acting up.

Yes it means the coolant temp is low, as it would be when first starting up. There is nothing wrong. It will go out in a short time. Also the transmission (if an automatic) will not shift into 4th until the light goes out. It stays in 3rd in order to speed up engine heat up.

it just means "you're cool."
but you're only cool for 30 seconds, then it remembers it's a yaris and corrects itself
ha!

As the original poster mention it's a warning light and a red one for that matter.
The main function is to advise the driver to be careful not pushing the engine until the normal temperature is achieved. Pretty much a damage control warning.

BTW my 2007 D4D Yaris in the Norwegian winter can take a good part of 15/20 minutes to turn off. ;-)

If you have an Automatic. It will not go into the top gear until the cool LED goes out.
My Scanguage shows it going out. At 130 degrees coolant temperature.
