Has anyone notice a plastic burned smell after installing a header. I just bought a header from Amazon and after installing it drove a couple of miles (10-15 miles to be exact) I notice the smell.
I couldn't see any cables touching the headers. I re-routed the O2 sensor cable as far from the header but still the smell persist. Is the smell normal. I have read in some forums that the smell is due to the header itself
Thanks!!!:iono:

Over the first day or two it will burn off the oils/grease from the install and manufacturing. I don't know that I would describe it as a burning plastic smell though

My exhaust parts always come w/ well stuck factory, warehouse and shipping labels. Wouldn't be surprised if some sort of anti-rust finish is on the header to keep it looking new until installed.

Almost all metal car parts come with some kind of anti rush protection layer. Break discs have a pretty thick protection layer for example and that's why you should always use break cleaner when you install new breaks even if they don't look dirty.

You probably also had some smoke in the engine bay too after the install you never noticed. Its normal due to the coating on the header so itndoesnt corrode in the factory. To drive it hard for a while and it will go away

Update: No smell at all after local cruising, no more than 15-20 miles
Will go for longer cruising next week
