Hi All

Will admit to being a complete amateur on all of this - but hopefully a simple question:
I have a 2005 Yaris 1st Gen / French build with 155/8/13 tyres.

It's always a been a bit on the light side and a susceptible to wobble with even the slightest of wind when on the motorway - but is there anything I could do to the tyres to help this?

Could I use larger tyres to get a bit more stability or is this a non-starter? If Yes - what size? Not looking to go for performance or add anything - just less wobble.

Any words of wisdom appreciated.

OEM = 13x5 wheels with 155/80/13 tyres.

You could install 175/70/13 or 185/70/13 tyres on the original wheels.

For your next tyres, look for a non-aggressive tread pattern and a wide continuous centre band; these features will reduce highway wander and improve straight-line tracking.

wider tires or...even going up to 14 or 15 rim if you can...155/80...that's ALOT of sidewall..I bet the sidewall is very soft too.

The above posts will help with high speed wander but unfortunately not a lot for cross winds. The yaris/echo are light cars with a large cross section, aside from adding a lot of weight or cutting down the roof, strong cross winds will always require your full attention when driving.

I have 7 inch wide rims, I'm lowered on stiffer suspension with a rear sway bar and on tires that have almost zero wander. I still get tossed around in our strong cross winds. Going over the skyway during my commute can be a challenging task if im not beside a large truck to block the wind.

I've found relaxing my grip on the steering wheel and not fighting the wind as much helps quite a bit.
