View Full Version : New project: triple function LED mirror signal install

I'm trying my luck with these bad boys. These have 3 functions. Turn signal, DRL, and courtesy light. I haven't started the install yet. Total eBay special from Taiwan but it honestly looks pretty legit so far. Of course, I won't know how well the parts will fit until I actually tear my mirrors apart. I opted to get the paint matched mirror covers from the same seller in the same kit, they're not OEM, per se. Here goes nothing!
But first, I have a question or two for anyone more knowledgeable... where can I tap into the DRL and courtesy light functions? I was thinking headlight switch and maybe the fuse panel for the dome light? Not sure where else to get into that. The signal function can be sourced from the body control module. There's a post somewhere here already detailing the install of single function mirror lights, so I'll be referencing that a lot (giving credit where credit is due, I'm forgetting the names of users who've already been there and done that... thanks for sharing!)
I'll keep posting with updates on the install with photos. It's been raining here so I'll wait until it dries up a little bit, plus I work a lot so I'll need a day off or two.
Side note, I had to downsize the photos in order to post them here, so hopefully they turn out decent.

Update! Lights are installed and working well. Here are some photos. I took the lazy route when it came to routing the wires. I honestly didn't want to drill out the speaker rivets to make room in accessing the loom so I just taped the wires outside the loom using electrical tape. I made sure nothing binds when opening/closing the doors and windows. Looks ghetto but it functions and there's no exposed connectors so I don't think corrosion will occur.
I used this thread to find out which wires to tap into for the turn signals.

Huge thanks to NYC-SE & CTScott for documenting their projects, providing useful info and tips. If not for you guys, I would have had a lot of trouble figuring out the wiring.

Congrats on the upgrade.
I can't believe this isn't a standard Toyota factory passive safety feature for all models (or for at least the SE trim). Instead, we now get 'Toyota Safety Sense' for distracted, drunk & dementia drivers.

Signals look nice. I'm a little worried about the wiring at the door / body interface. Hope it holds up.

Thanks! Yea I agree especially since the mounting points are already there, and the power mirror connector has 2 empty pins they could use for mirror signals. The mirror covers that I got in the (eBay) kit did NOT fit. However, I didn't buy OEM ones. I used the ones I got with the kit and cut off every single clip and tab and just glued it on the mirror using industrial strength adhesive that I had to let dry for a few hours. I used zip ties to hold it together while it cured. The paint match was spot on though so I just decided to work with what I got. After the glue dried, I cleaned the excess and you'd never even tell it's the wrong one that was glued on. Good enough for me!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180115/3d6aff1ae7790fa566f7b2039acfbda1.jpg

I'm sure it will. I realize that it's not the proper way of doing things and I mainly went this route because I don't have a drill to get those speaker rivets out. However, if the wiring fails, it gives me another excuse to tear my car apart again!

Nice work man!. Side question, m.flores.0928, did you put spacers on your wheels? seems it is nice and flush with the panels. if so, what were the front and back thickness?

Yea I put spacers on. I have wider tires too. Current tire size is 195/55/15. Front spacer is 25mm and rear is 30mm. They rub now haha

25mm and 30mm? what was your wheel's et? the wheels we get in Aust are standard 14" with bicycle tyre of 175/70. I thought yours was too since it looks like stock wheel covers.

Mine are factory 15 steelies. ET39. Wheel size is 15x5.5 with a 39 offset. Original tire size was 175/65/15

Darn, you guys get nicer steel wheels as ours in Aust are 14x5 et39 with 175/70/14 shoes. I was actually thinking of getting some old corolla wheels which also has 4x100@54.1 bore, but with 15x5.5 which i can fit better shoes on them... but finding good condition ones might be tough unless i dig through different wreckers and getting the spare wheels from the boot (trunk) or something. :)

The spacers have studs in them. You bolt up the spacer using the factory studs and lug nuts then the spacer studs stick out to bolt your wheel to

Probably just aimed too much at the door itself, would prefer more towards the ground, but bright enough I think! Nice.
