Darted out in front of me, thought about running out of the lane, and the turned around and decided getting hit was the best option... anyway it really tweaked the front bumper and what appear to be metal mounts on the front drivers side of my 2009 Yaris Hatch. The car drove fine the additional 50 miles to work no problem...
While the car is totally paid off and I own it free and clear - I'm in a bad spot because I'm not sure if the insurance company will try to total the car or what instead of repairing it. Its got 320k miles and while it drives perfect and is in great shape otherwise I'm sure it's got basically no value and the insurance company will try to give me like $1500 for it.
I'm thinking the radiator support brackets got slightly twisted... hard to tell in the pics but I'll take the bumper off and try to get a better idea of the damage when I get home.
On the bright side the bumper was already cracked from some errant road debris late last year and I'm about to swap a Yaris S bumper on and totally repaint the front end. On the down side I wasn't planning on doing that this week!?!

Sounds like you need to get creative with the repair so an otherwise good running vehicle can be kept in service. I tend to except dents and such like as a part of the natural aging process of the car!

...like a fine wine. In all seriousness, I would find a way to fix it the cheapest way. I am anal about my cars but I find it’s an uphill losing battle. Your car is paid for which is “worth it’s weight in gold.”

Report the claim and get the estimate done per their instructions. In the end, it is ultimately up to you whether or not you want to proceed with a claim. I doubt it is a right off. You are paying insurance, so at least pursue it. Don't assume they are there to screw you.

what per year to carry "comp" insurance on this 320k Yaris?

I filed a claim so I can get the estimate and at least see issues... for the Yaris it’s probably like like $500 a year for full coverage and a $100 deductible.
Radiator support brace all out of whack and crumpled in 2 spots... bent way in on the bottom, all the plastic shrouds are toast as is the wheel well liner... it was driving fine, not leaking any fluid. I can’t get a pic to post off my phone but there was a random wire yanked off of something and I’m not sure what since all the fog lights and headlights were operational. I can’t believe a raccoon did that sort of damage!?
Definitely beyond cosmetic... my guess is like $2000 of damage if not way more. Balls in the insurance companies court and I’ll pay $2000 to get it back up and operational. I love the car and probably won’t take a payoff either. Will probably try to get it fixed unless there’s something catastrophically wrong.

Any idea what the wire in the first pic goes to? Second pic shows where the radiator brace crumpled at the bottom...
I’m hopeful if insurance doesn’t repair it, and nothing catastrophic has happened, that I can get a new radiator support. Anyone know the official part number for a 2009 hatch for that brace? Would a CAPA one work just as well? The OEM sedan/non hatch ones I was finding were like $500!?
Rock Auto appears to have them individually:

Great news - insurance is going to totally repair the car! Damage includes radiator support, a hole in my AC condenser (maybe he said compressor?), entire bumper substructure, fog lamp, and a lot of miscellaneous stuff... $2400 worth of damage in all. I probably pay like $50-60 of my rates a year towards the $100 deductible and this is why!
Radiator and everything else was totally fine... I should be able to pick up the car next Thursday!:headbang:

 Wish I had your deductible. Mine is $500 per comp incident. Stopped at a Walmart McDonalds in my Soul last July for a burger. That ended up being a $2100 burger. Out of pocket for lunch, $500 + burger.

I had kind of similar, albeit way cheaper experience - got a speeding ticket on the way to lunch with a friend!? So I ended up paying $250 for a Lobster burger that day:eek:

Was there any trapped raccoon fur/hair anywhere? Did it bounce off forward? Go all the way back between the rear wheels? Did it run off? Die? Did you stop and look for it?

There was only a small amount of fur on the bumper... he didn't go underneath at all. He seems to have bounced? When I came back through there were bits of raccoon everywhere though:iono:
It was out in the middle of farm land so I'm sure he had a pretty healthy diet to get to that size!

Damn bro. I had no idea they could cause that much damage. I hit and killed a badger with my sisters Honda Jazz a while back. Amazingly besides a few broken clips i was able to push the dent out, secure the bumper with cable ties and the only evidence was a crack and some chips in the paintwork! But i had to wash all the badger fur and guts and blood off with my jet wash.
Bloody raccoons, not something we have to deal with on this side of the pond!

Get your story straight and tell the insurance company that a raging driver threw said animal at your car while driving your local speed limit with no safe way of changing lanes or stopping without causing an accident thus causing damage to your vehicle lol :iono:
Glad you're okay though

Back in business!
I’m actually buying the S front end from a forumite across the country... shipping rates fluctuate a lot on an item that big so we’re waiting on them to drop again. In the meantime I had the new bumper put on and painted by the shop... once I get the s bumper/lip I’m going to have it repainted, let it cure, then I’m going to have it totally wrapped in Xpel.

Day 2 driving back to work and I’ve got stone chips all over the place already! Interstate 75 is essentially a gravel road into and out of Atlanta!?
