Today, during a heavy snow, I spotted a small car that I have no idea what it is. It was coming towards me. It had large round headlights and a horizontal grill. The car was about the same size as a Fiat/Smart car but longer (it mad a left in front of me). It was a hatch and the hatch appeared to be mostly glass.
I couldn't follow. So, I tried searching for car pics and I can't find it.
The front was reminiscent of a 50's Renault.
It was really an interesting vehicle.
Any thoughts?

Round headlights, horizontal grille, glass hatch. How about this?

Much smaller. The hatch is similar but that is that.
I'm guessing it might be a electric.
The horizontal front grill was a opening with these 'bug eyes" lights.
Not an older vehicle.
There is a lot of proto types running around this area it may be one of those
or a vehicle to be imported. There is a major EPA facility in Ann Arbor and all the major auto companies are located here.

was it a new car or old car?

your description makes me think of a MK1 golf and I actually know someone that lives in that area with an MK1

Best guess so far is maybe a Peugeot (sp?).
I understand some are running around with manufacturers plates.
I'll quit drinking now.
However if I see it again, I'm following.

Did little circa 1989 rear driver hatchbacks Mazda GLC ("Great Little Car" Really! I had one.) and Toyota Starlet(I want one.) have the 7" round lights? Or the big squarish lights used for a short period around then?

(Same era Chevette was a similar vehicle in spec. Tough enough little car, but flat sides made it sorta ugly in my view.)

How about a Peugeot 107?

How about a Peugeot 107?

Holy shit, that looks like Versa headlights married to an 07 Chevy Aveo with Canadian Echo characteristics and Volvo XC70 rear tails.

Ding Ding! Winner!
Hatch is spot on.
I saw a two door but silhouette very similar.
Front also very similar.
The car companies (manufacturers) have a habit of disguising features of the vehicle
hasn't been released, prototype or not from U.S. market.
I think you nailed it ABS.

What is a Peugeot doing running around Detroit? Are they thinking about re-entering the US market?

Peugeot is coming back.
There are cars that are prototypes with altered appearances in the area.
Crazy patterns, phony inserts under bras, de badged. They all have one thing in common,
manufacturer plates.

Peugeot bought Opel late last year. Since many GM products are in fact Opels, then Peugeot is probably coming to America one way or another.
