Unfortunately, you cannot really fix stupid or selfish.

^^^ Yup.

As I drive to and from school, I notice that the majority of drivers are on their cells... and hazards on the road.

So inconsiderate. The lack of awareness to the fact that we're in control of several thousand pound pieces of machinery that can injure or kill others never ceases to amaze and frustrate me.

Seems like the cell phone manufacturers could make their phones know There in a moving car and shut them off. If they wanted to. How much would it cost to equip each car with breathalyzer? Seems like they could do that too. And smart cars should be able to detect when the driver is distracted and not paying attention.

Why is it any of this done? :iono:

This is being worked on I believe. I suspect a big issue is how do you disable only the device which is in the hands of the driver.

Unfortunately legislating against stupidity doesn't work. It is illegal here for the driver to have a phone in their hand. The risk of being fined doesn't seem to stop many drivers, so the government is now testing new camera technology that will recognise a driver with a phone in thier hand and take their pictur , including the registration plate of the vehicle.

How long until the locations of the cameras are posted, and added to GPS software to warn these fools?

Updated: new laws from July 1st will see automated cameras being used to catch people with a phone in their hand while driving. Camera footage wil be reviewed by operators before fines are issued.

A trial on the Sydney Harbour Bridge is claimed to have detected 750 drivers using their phone in a 1 hour period.
