I went to a place for an oil change. Never been there before. They told me i need 4 brakes and 4 new rotors. Said they make rotors as junk now. You don't turn them. You throw them away.
2012 automatic. 83000 miles
Absolutely no signs of any brake problems when i drive.
Am i being snowed because i am female?????

You're most likely being snowed, but not because you are female. Oil changes are a cheap lure to get people into the shop. They then perform a complimentary umpteen point inspection which will no doubt find a 'problem' which must be addressed.

Modern rotors are no longer manufactured with enough material to allow a couple of turns to clean/true them up in their lifetime.

All that said, your rotors could actually be warped, and the shop is on the up and up.

2012+ rotors are 35 pound cast iron. at 4x100 10.8" in the front and in the rear 9.8" 33 pound cast iron.

junk.

When I got my brakes done my local shop told me they don't turn rotors, they just replace them. I'm old school, with GMs and Fords in my past, so I remember rotors being turned, but I looked it up an it seems that no one turns rotors any more.

It's usually not cost-effective to machine rotors anymore. By the time you pay for the extra labour to machine them, you can buy new ones.

You won't notice any difference in braking when your brakes are nearly worn out.

ask shop why they say brakes need replaced. ask what minimum observed pad (front)/shoe(rear) thicknesses are on the vehicle and what are the pass-minimums for the state inspection.

(Note that amount of allowed rust on rotors plays into inspection, and can be somewhat a subjective call. much salt used where u drive?)

I would ask for measurements, not just "they are bad". Ask for the numbers and for the old parts so you can check them, if they still insist they are due to be replaced then they probably are

I feel that this is a loaded question. brake parts are cheap until you need calipers or electronics. i have the knowledge and tools to do my own brakes. if it were me, i would let it ride until signs that pads and rotors need replacement appear. Signs would be squeaking, squealing, metal on metal sound, pulling to one side, wobbling and/or shaking during breaking. These are only a few things that would cause me to get my hands dirty. Both the wife and my daughter have had quick change oil shops get them. A lot of shops have a tendency to up-sell unneeded services to less knowledgeable customers. my only suggestion is find a reputable mechanic and stick with them. build a report and have him/her educate you so you are more knowledgeable. i remember the $160 oil change for my daughter. The jiffy lube charged $29 to clean a k&n panel air filter and another $29 to attempt to clean a reusable oil filter (all they managed to do was scratch it up). She does her own oil now.
