My yaris has been ticking the last few months. Happens when accelerating. Is this do to needing a valve adjustment? I dont think it's the manifolds as it doesn't go away after the car warms up and I can't see any exhaust fumes leaking from the manifold.

It is very common for the gasket between the manifold and the downpipe to start leaking. It usually makes the most noise on acceleration when it goes

Wouldn't that make the car louder? Or am I incorrect. I always thought that ticking with exhaust leaks usually went away after the motor warmer up?

Depending on the size of the leak, yes. It will get louder as a leak gets bigger.
Sometimes leaks in the manifold itself will go away/be less noticeable when hot...but most other leaks (rotted pipe, gasket leaks, etc) will stay the same when warmed up

Is it definitively different than rattlling? Things to double check is possible loose heat shield that when you accelerate cuz the exhaust does move a little. Maybe the Cat or Resonator. Does the ticks get more in frequency as you accelerate more and more? or just the same. How about neutral cruising.

Just cruising along it's fine no ticking but soon as I accelerate the ticking starts. It's a consistent tick as well, doesn't get louder/quieter. I'm puzzled as where to start to look and dont want to spend repair bills on things that aren't in need of repair

if its a tapping noise its your valves. you can hear the engine ticking naturally with sensitive ears because the engine is so tiny and theres not alot of NVH dampening.

Its definitely not a normal sound as it only started a couple months ago, its very noticeable.

make a recording of a noise or something. these things need to be like diagnosed by ears.

You sure you don't have a pebble in one of your tire's grooves?

The same noise was made by my car. Noisy on acceleration quiet while cruising. It was the gasket between the end of the exhaust pipe near the engine and the exhaust manifold. New gasket no noise!
