So I know these cars can have a motor tick to them but my car has a nasty tick noise and it’s coming from something belt driven I think cause it pronounced near that side of the car . It seems like it only happens when the car is warm and the ac is on. I have used a screw driver to listen to each component and can’t really tell. The ac pulley has the slightest movement I mean it’s very little and with the screw driver on it it sounds fine the water pump maybe the culprit but it’s hard to say I think it’s the water pump or the alternator but why would that be the case if it only happens with the ac on. By the way this is all at idle. I did notice that when I turn my ac on the engine fan immediately turns on but noise is near the belts . Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

I need help with this, I have the same symptom, and it looks like it is not related to the AC, because it happens with only turning on the heater, it does not matter if the AC is on or off.

If you were able to find the root cause, please tell me!!

Cheers!

Pull off the drive belt and see if the noise is still there.

A/C compressor-on drive torque tightens belt and increases bearing loads in upstream belt driven components.

I'll give it a try and let you know.
