How to determine proper wheel offset?

I know, I know, I don't even own a Yaris yet, so why am I asking silly questions?

PURSUIT OF KNOWLEDGE! :laugh:

I was just curious how in the world you even start to choose your wheel offset? Does the dealer offer you recommendations, or do you just have to guess, or what? Is there a formula based on your total tire diameter and width? Inquiring minds wanna' know!

I did use the search function, but only found tips on specific tire/wheel combos. I'm looking for info that will help me figure this stuff out on my own when the time comes. :biggrin:

Take a look at this fitment worksheet for technical data. It's the best wheel fitment sheet I've ever seen, and FIKSE is a major player in custom race wheels.

Now, for the Yaris, the pictures of wheels on here with +40mm offset look very close to the fender (and pretty good, too!) so I would say that is the minimum or close to it. The guys at WheelGuyz.com didn't want me to get a wheel with an offset in the 30's, he thought that would stick out too much. I'm getting rims with a +43mm for just a little more "tuck".

The smaller the offset the more the wheel "sticks out".

Please jump in and correct me if I've got any of it wrong.

Totally depends on diameter and width. For a 7 inch wheel anything from +45 to + 40 will work. You can go lower than that but it will depend on your ride height.

I have 16X7 +40 with 205 50 16 tires. Pics in my garage.

As a reference, if you take a look in my garage, I have 7.5" wide rims and a 42mm offset at the back, while the front has an estimated 38mm offset (the brake discs mounting plate thingies are thicker than stock). But remember my tires are stretched a little bit, if they were wider they would rub up front for sure. 40-42mm would be perfect for this wheel width.

before worrying about offset, measure from your fender down to your tire, this will determine how much you need to lower the car to lose that terrible case of wheel gap

now offset, measure the distance from the tire to the inside of the fender and this will determine how large of an adapter you will need, be sure and compeltely fill this space also

now you have a rad ride

don't concern yourself with rubbing because damnit you look good doin' it:laugh:

I am running 215/40R17's with a +42 offset

the OE wheel is 15X5.5 with a +38

if you are going to lower your car I would not go much wider than 7.5 inch wide wheel and keep it in the +40 to +45 range and don't go any wider than a 215 tire and you should be fine.... click on my signature for some wheel tire combo choices

I believe Toyota Yaris OEM alloys are as follows:
15 x 5.5 ET45 (185/60/15)
16 x 6 ET51 (195/50/16)

This is the info I got directly from Toyota Japan.

The pics in largeorangefont's garage seem to show that his wheels are at the outer limits (particularly up front).

Would it be safe to post that 7's with a ET+40 is about the lowest offset we'd want to run without having the front wheel/tires stick out a bit?

im using yaris sedan will there be any issue with offset +45

as i plan to use racing hart cp35 195/50/15 wheels

worries it will rub the front wheels...

+45 offset is way in... no problems there... when you get to 30.. it starts to look pretty nice and lined up with the fender
