Hi guys!!
I have a 05 echo and I have noticed that when I start driving when the engines cold it seems that the transmission does not change from 3rd to 4th gear until the temp light disappears. Is this normal or should I take to a mechanic??

Normal. There is a lockout preventing that shift to 4th until the engine reaches temp threshold.

Yes, it's quite normal. Definitely more noticeable now that we are in winter.

I drive 800 metres of residential streets before turning onto the Princes Highway in my morning commute. This section on highway has a 70Km/h speed limit. During the cold weather, I generally have to drive maybe 500 - 800 metres of the highway before my transmission will shift into 4th. In summer, the engine has reached sufficient temperature to let the transmission go into 4th straigh away.
