i am close to buying a lb....finallly. just wondering if anyone larger dogs do ok with the one piece rear seat down. id love the fold flat, but keeping to my budget, ill go with just conv. package. its a bigger dog (70 lbs).

do any of you put your dogs back there?

My dog is little, 5 lbs. But for a 70lb dog you shouldn't have any problems. Might be a good idea to put a doggy blanket back there though.

I'm sure he would be fine. I have an Am Staff and he would ride fine back there but he isn't allowed in the car.

Be careful, the one-piece seat at least has a cloth back that is not supported by anything hard when the seat is down. A heavy dog like our Golden Retrievers will tear it just by standing on it.

yeah, I would put a good rubber mat down or some heavy vinyl flooring cut to fit, industrial mat or something down, anything to distribute the weight

i have the single piece back seat and our 70+ dog rides fine back there. i do recommend a blanket/cover though. it won't keep all the hair off the seat(s) but it will help a lot.

Also, I would have a rear bumper protector installed, or you'll end up with scratched paint.

I carried my friend's big golden retriever once, he seemed nice and comfy, but a blanket would be good.

thank you all for your replies. i was mostly worried about head clearance, but i think it should be fine. yeah, i think the bumber protector is a good idea. man, i wish the fold flat 60/40 seats was just a stand alone option.

I got the 60/40 seat (gloat, gloat, gloat). My two dogs (50-pounders) fit just fine back there; in fact, I'm thinking of getting a third dog because I still have room for one more!

boris13, im sure we had some discourse over this last year on edmunds. its funny, because i felt the yaris hatch was no good for dogs, especially without the fold flat seats. i had two dogs at the time , but now just the one. i just love small hatchbacks so much that im dumping my corolla. the single piece back seat almost goes flat without the head rests on, but i wish the back of the seat back was more solid (like w/the 60/40) and not a looser fitting fabric. oh well, my dog will have to suffer with my budget limitations.

I think the dog will be fine. I managed to fit a 75 gallon fish tank with a 25 gal sump inside my liftback.
