View Full Version : Shorter uphill-downhill route, or longer flat?

I'll be experimenting next month where our daily commute becomes a little more regular, but off hand, generally speaking and all that, would one expect to burn more gas going up 2km and down 2km, or take a 5km flat route? ie a difference of 1km (thats not the whole commute, just the section with the option).

You hoping to save like 10 cents a week? It's a commute, do whatever is less annoying.

I always opt for the route of least congestion, most relaxing ride, and least amount of stop-lights and/or gear-shifting.

Cost is moot do the easier route on your engine so that is is working less in the winter when the oil temps still are not warm - the flat 5k route is better for this unless it is stop and go traffic
