I was doing some housekeeping on my computer and came across some pics. Figured I post some in case there are any flight sim enthusiasts on the site. Before I got more into cars, I did a lot of flightsimming. After virtually flying the global skies, I decided to try my hand at developing some scenery. Microsoft Flight Simulator was open-sourced enough to allow for considerable third-party development. Some of the add-on aircraft I bought were amazingly compex and came with actual operations manuals - virtually every system modeled. My mainstay for flying was a Boeing 767.
I worked with a couple other guys, one of which was my coding guy and he did most of the effects and coding needed to make seasonal ground polygons work among a bunch of other really complicated stuff. Although most of the sceneries he and I created were freeware, we did do one project that was payware. The scenery was the culmination of about 18 months work and 1000s of pics sent to me by a Westjet captain out of Calgary International. He was basically my project advisor. Everything you see on the airfield proper was created with a 3-D modeling program and all textures for the buildings and ground polygons were either actual doctored digital photos or made from stratch in Photoshop. The aircraft in the photos are low resolution AI air traffic.
Some of scenery development groups out there make this stuff look cartoonish in comparison. It's really amazing what can be done.
I hope to get back into simming some day again and my son has started to develop an interest.

those are very pretty, what do you do with them? do you only do airports? have you thought of getting into video game design? (other than flight simulator)

Nice! I spent far too many hours in MS Flight Simulator and Flight Unlimited II back in the day... Too bad I don't have the time for that anymore :(

All the sceneries were uploaded to flightsim sites, namely avsim and flightsim.com. Yes, only airports but I did a few aircraft liveries. I never really had any interest in game development.

I LOVED FU2. Wish it had been expanded to cover more territory though. The flight dynamics (yaw modeling absolutely ruled!), performance- on mid level hardware - blew MSFS out of the water. And those rain effects!
Something we always had to be cognizant of in design - especially with larger sceneries- was keeping polygon counts/ 3D model complexity and texture sizes low to facilitate good performance. MSFS's coding engine sucked, even after they went XML in FSX. It would require a beast of a gaming machine to run it with any addons and weather, whereas FU2 would run quite respectably on a Pentium 4. Lol I usually had pretty up to date gear but I was never 100% satisfied with the way the MSFS series ran. Then again, I used heavy addon aircraft, secnery and weather engines.

Yeah, except that they didn't have crash modeling. Microsoft had to sign an agreement with Boeing, Cessna, Raytheon etc promising not to 'virtually' explode their planes. So, I guess if you liked bouncing off the ground and calling it a crash, more power to ya. Then again, you could download one of the few addons that made the plane turn into a fireball on impact. Most of those were removed from the flightsim sites, for obvious reasons.

That's why I loved Flight Unlimited II, I could take a Cessna as high as it can go, dive until it reaches some crazy speed, then pull up, and leave the wings behind me somewhere

AKA, turning the plane into a lawn dart. The Fairchild Metro Liner 3 had that nickname. I knew a guy that flew one and he even called it that. LOL

Checked that out. Looks really cool! I had a brief stint with RC planes. I had a couple buddies that were really good at flying them. I built a trainer (Sierra something), high wing config. I got pretty good at 'high' altitude patterns, but totalled it on my first takeoff. I didn't apply enough power, one wing stalled and it cartwheeled to its death. The upside is that some kid with almost no money in our RC club got an engine, servos, landing gear and a Futaba 4-channel radio for chump change.

Yup, Flight Unlimited was a fantastic series, for sure. I had high hopes that the title would be developed more but I don't think the developer deemed the project to be profitable. I liked the graphics, flight modeling, ATC etc and although these were superior, IMO, to the MSFS series, the MSFS series did have more going for it, especially in terms of being open-sourced and encourging of 3rd party development. The Flight Unlimited series was destined to be more of a 'game', whereas the MSFS series was more of a 'simulator'. I did buy FSX, but continued to use FS9 for years after FSX's release, mainly due to the third part addons.

Flight sim, schlight schim, this is just good ol' video gaming to me lol.
I do plenty of gaming. Overwatch, PUBG, PUBG Mobile, Forza 7, Forza Horizon 4 and COD Black Ops 4 are a few of the titles in my current rotation.
I just got back into 1/24 scale models after my wife suggested I needed a hobby:redface:. I already had a couple Tamiya kits so it wasn't that expensive to get going! I'm not the most skilled(yet), but it's just something to do in the cold winter months on my days off.
This is my first one- a Castrol Tom's Supra GT. Obviously, I've still got a little ways to go. I've got a Nissan 300zx still in the box for when this one's finished. I use Tamiya spray lacquer and primer for the shells and their liquid acrylics for the detail work.

Flight sim, schlight schim, this is just good ol' video gaming to me lol.
There are many that would differ in opinion. It never bothered me when folks called it a video game, but those more serious 'simmers' didn't see it that way. I remember when Microsoft mused about turnng the Flight Simulator franchise into a console game. It created quite a stir in the community. I believe the plan was to remove most of realism, improve the graphics, making it more accessible to the general public, sell more copies as the platform was not a money maker for FS. Since the game was released, it had an open platform and MS shared code so that 3rd party developers could make complex addons. One brilliant aircraft I bought and flew regularly was a 767 that modeled every system on the aircraft and had an extremely steep learning curve. It came with what was essentially the actual flight manual for the real aircraft, complete with all procedures and checklists from dark cockpit, all gate to gate operations, including and fuel/weight/cargo/passenger calculators. The flight modeling alone was a major programming endeavour.
There were other very complex addons such as weather generators that took years of development and worked on complex algorithms. I regard the MSFS platform as a base engine. It was the 3rd party development that really added the complexity and realism.
MSFS is used by real pilots (recreational and commercial) and flight schools, large and small. One of the guys that provided me with pics for my Calgary scenery is a WestJet captain and he uses it to keep current on instrument flying between flights.
A couple of my buddies that used MSFS were given two hours at a Flight Safety center in a real Boeing simulator and they successfully completed all phases of flight. Apparently the simulator operators were quite impressed and even threw in a few mechanical failures that the guys handled without incident.
I think most copies of MSFS sold ended up on shelves collecting dust as long-term engagement in the program required a significant investment in learning.
So is it a flight 'simulator'? Yes, Is it a video game? Also, Yes. LOL.

Yeah, my son has, I believe, FH4. Amazing graphics, fun to play. Arcade games never really sustained my interest. The flightsim series did keep me engaged, largely due to the varied addons.
Another one I like, though haven't played lately, is Euro Truck Simulator. In fact I bought a gaming machine specifically for it. My son loves it too and he gets to see the European landscapes - geography lesson included.

Those sound like pretty awesome rigs! My current gamer (a few years old) runs the 4790k as well, no overclocking. One variant of the chip is not overclockable, maybe the basic 4790? A pretty powerful cpu for $$. The card in that machine isn't bad for basic gaming. I think it's a 4G GTX 750TI.

nice. your machine will still outperform any ps4/xbox without issues. the "k" is the overclock-able on chip sets. i don't do any "tweaking" for the overclocking. the ROG MB comes with optimizing software. i run the computer for about 2 hours, then i ran the software and let it optimize all the settings. i didn't believe the portable at 37% and ran it 3 different times. 37% every time! sweet!
you will probably want to get a new video card in a year or two. i'd let them get in a generation or 2 on this new RTX before i'd buy one. IMO.
the GTX one's are pretty well priced now. i got the 1060 OC 6GB for like $200.

Sorry it took a while, but here's an 'almost-finished' pic. It's my first one in quite some time so I still need to perfect my skills:redface:. I like to use the small spray cans on the shells(this one is still in it's primer coat). The sprays are pretty nasty to use indoors and since it was -11F outside I'm just going to wait until spring for the final coats.
I'm actually kind of digging the unfinished 'street-racer' look:cool:! I installed some front/rear LEDs and left out the windows to get the battery wires through(plus I smoked the lenses too much-rookie mistake- and couldn't see all the work I did on the interior). Started painting the smaller bits of a 300zx yesterday and will post pics when I have more to show. Thanks for the compliments!

Heavily addicting hobby.
Need to know how to solder small electronics..basic electrical skills.
You buy parts seperate..flight controller, esc's.video transmitters, radio transmitters etc.
Example, small flight controller boards are 20x20mm.
Most common are 30x30mm for 4 to 6 '' quadcopters,
You can fly with or without FPV goggles.
The gogs puts you in the cockpit.
Pic of my setup...5'' and 6'' quads aswell as larger cinematic build..
Those are 12'' carbon props on the large one btw.

Gentlemem, I found new hobby - home renovation and improvenments. I decided to start from bathroom. I want to make vintage batroom with wooden elements. Plus change some devices like shower thread. New one I have already ordered on amazon after reading info here (https://bathroomer.org/best-low-flow-shower-head/) . I choose good one from High Sierra’s 1.5 GPM.

I just got back from Las Vegas. I've visited Las Vegas a few times, and each time I go I love it more and more. It's a town that never sleeps, and there's always something going on. The hotels are huge and flashy and almost always full of people—and the casinos are even more so! The lights and sounds are sometimes overwhelming, but that's part of the fun. Westgate https://westgateresorts.com/hotels/nevada/ is my favorite hotel to stay at when I'm in Vegas. It has everything you could want: great service, good prices, and a great location (right near all of the action). Plus it has several restaurants inside its walls if you don't feel like venturing out into the madness of Las Vegas Boulevard.

I try to have a new hobby every 2 months. Say, at the moment I study Spanish. In 2 months I will try to do Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Of course I don't dream of becoming a fluent Spanish speaker or a great Jiu Jitser but it is just fun.

My second hobby is most likely my work as a marketer, I really love this field and I'm happy to work in it. My work in marketing is not only my second hobby, but also a great passion. Marketing is not just my second hobby, but also an area where I find my calling and full satisfaction in my work. There is one thing I don't like in my work, it's a constant work with a big volume of mail, but thanks to this Website (https://workspace.google.com/marketplace/app/clean_email_list_bulk_email_verification/53011246076) I can optimize this problem.
I can't afford this hobby, but every first weekend in June, there is the WWII Weekend in Reading, PA. I usually ride out with my motorcycle and walk though the festivities:

Hello Guys,
I just thought id reach out to any Yaris lovers that may be in this group and share my modification of my 2004 P1. Im currently on a road trip from Cologne to Cape Town and in Cameroon now after crossing the treacherous border in from Nigeria over the last few days in the mountains.
I drove as far into Africa as i could with the car over the last 4 months along the west coast and let the locals modify it like theirs along the way to suit the road conditions as they come. First i started by letting them rebuild the front suspension legs in Guinea so they would be much harder and raise the front of the car for pot holes. Last weeks i found out i would have to make a crossing (in order to complete this trip) in the mountains between Nigeria and Cameroon which only old landrovers have made - for this i had the entire front and back suspension raised 15 cm and Snow Tyres fitted to the front plus i creased the front wheel size from 14 up to 15 inch to deal with the mud.
It took 3 days in total to make the border crossing in the mountains and the locals said this is the smallest car in history to make the crossing. I am also just completely shocked in how reliable the car is and that i didn't bust a joint with all that off roading!!! I rolled into Cameroon (central Africa from west Africa) yesterday with much excitement from the locals. Hope you guys enjoy reading and take a look at my photos. I call this model the Yaris Cross.

It's awesome that you make it to the WWII Weekend in Reading, PA despite the costs. Sometimes, passions find a way, right? Your motorcycle ride and immersion in the festivities sound like a blast. If you ever want to add a musical element to your experience, consider trying out the bodhrán (https://mcneelamusic.com/irish-bodhran-for-sale/). It's a unique drum that could bring a whole new rhythm to your WWII Weekend adventures.

I recently just started a YT channel about my RC monster truck hobby.
It's mostly solid axles monster trucks, but then again, if they're not solid axles and not 4WS capable I don't consider it a monster truck even if they have big tires. But that's just my opinion...
Here's my channel:

And my slightly bashing my modified Tamiya Juggernaut. It runs on a single 1/8 scale motor.
