Compared to a stock trim sub-compact commuter car, yes. In the Hot Hatch market, that's just the price of admission. Here's a quick showdown between it and a boutique prepped Peugot.

If you were to look at the cost of all the upgrades and engineering and time that goes into making one, it's a bargain at twice the price. ;) I'm trying to figure out a way to score the drivetrain from a Series 2 Lotus Elise (or at least the compressor and intake) to put into a Yaris and homebrew one myself. The stock 2ZR is already a riot, can't imagine how bonkers another 40 hp would be!

I agree, that price is crazy, I would never pay that for a small car. You can get a brand new Lexus UX Sport, which is a hatchback the size of a Corolla, for just under $40,000.
