Just got back from the home improvement store with some 8 foot lumber. The Echo got some looks in the parking lot, but with the roof rack and straps I was able to safely get it home. I've got some pictures somewhere I'll post with the Yaris towing a Uhaul trailer, but I can post those in the towing thread.

This isn't really 'towing' some I posted it here:wink:

Nice.

I have the 5 door yaris. You can get 2x4's in that. If you fold the passenger seat back to almost flat you can slide them in from the boot and sit them up on the dashboard up against the windscreen then use the passenger seatbelt to keep them from sliding around. I normally put an old towel in between them and the windscreen so it doesn't get damage if the car hits a bump. I must have had 15 2x4's and a couple other bits of timber in my car a few years ago when i built the work bench in my shop.

yeah, my Echo sedan doesn't even have a fold-down rear seat! it's as 'base' as you can get i think(ie. am/fm radio only, manual transmission, manual windows/doorlocks), but it does have AC. i already had the rack and Yakima makes these things called loadstops that allow me to carry stuff i couldn't normally fit inside like lumber and IKEA boxes.

Using a Yaris on moving day is like taking a knife to a gun fight.

Using a Yaris on moving day is like taking a knife to a gun fight.Yeah. When i moved i had the van take a few boxes and my bed and sofa. Everything else i put in my car. If i had to do it i almost wonder if i could get away with it in 5 trips although i haven't measured if my sofa would fit. [emoji848]

Yeah, it's great but you had a small amount of lumber. And as I know in some states you can get a ticket for this because it can be dangerous for other drivers around you.
I remember when I was learning to become a well-instructed and certified truck driver (https://www.avatarfleet.com/) they told us how to put all we have and fix them so they don't fly while we drive or we don't get tickets for dangerous driving, because there are a lot of cases when car crash happen because of this.
