Hatchback locking itself

I have a 2014 Yaris ... and almost always leave my hatchback unlocked .... several weeks ago for the first time after I drive a bit and then put the car in park, the hatchback locks itself .... the doors still remain unlocked unless I do that manually on the door panel ... but the hatchback locks down ... it will open with a key or if I release the unlock button on the drivers door panel .... but it's frustrating ... never had this issue before ... any advice please ...thanks in advance ...

It should definitely be working the opposite way, i.e. unlocking when you're in park. Have you looked through the manual to see if there's a way to change the auto-lock behavior?

Not sure if this goes for the Yaris but my wife Honda Crosstour was doing the same thing and I found out that one of the door actuator was faulty. If that’s the case when you manually open that faulty door latch the Hatchback will open without the key.
