my yaris was in perfect con dition before i went for vacation for 1 month. now i came back and switched my car but AC will just make a click (compressor clutch activates) but without giving cold air.
what could be the potential problem?
What do i need to check first.
thanks

i found out that the compressor still works and it spins when the AC clutch engages.. i just went to the shop and have it re-charged with R134a and it goes well again... reached 5.3deg C while the outside temp is 45 deg C, it is fantastic.
My question is, how often do we need to recharge it with R134a? the technician checked for leakages but could not find one... he told me it is normal to have some minimal leak of the refrigerant due to rubber seals in the compressor, is that true? he also told me that my car was not running for 1 month and that could be the reason why the leak goes fast and almost emptied out the refrigerant in the system.
i am concerned there could still be leak but maybe he was not able to identify it. He just did a simple soap leak test in all the lines and told me that my system is perfect and even the vacuum was perfect...
is this really common? i hope it is...

yeah that was the only thing i can only think of, a leak... but surprisingly until now almost 1 month it is working very well since it was evacuated and re-charged with refrigerant... most likely there was a leak in the filling valve (HP or LP ports) which we were not able to notice since it was used by the manifold to check the pressures, by using the manifold maybe the seat of the valve gets corrected and sealed again... :)

It will work , until next time it won't.
My mechanic has a device that detect leaks. When I went in for a compressor change (for my Mazda) they detected a small leak around the hoses seal on the compressor. Being 9 years old, they also changed the fittings and the seals at the same time.

after 5 months it leaked out and replaced the evaporator. :( but it is working fine now.
Just cant believe a 3 yr old evaporator that is still physically very clean just gave up.... i also have a friend who has roughly the same 3 yr old yaris and got an evaporator leaking... i hope this isn't a common problem... the mechanic told me it could be a premature problem due to vibration or factory defect of the material... there is only a small leak on the corner fin...
