EXTRA BODY PART??

Could anyone explain to me please what this 'extra panel' is? Its a 2017 Yaris and I purchased it last week. Polished it today and this is on the offside rear panel, next to door opening. Would be very grateful for any info as I am worried the car may have been in an accident and this is a poor repair? Thanks

that is just clear vinyl to protect the paint, you can remove it if you dont like it.

it is on most modern cars, it will be the same on the other side

Yep, I just had some body work done on my passenger rear quarter and they had to remove that vinyl strip to do it, so they literally reordered a new one from Toyota to put back on after the repairs were completed.
