Ha that's funny because I just saw a 2012-14 SE model today. Same version as mine except this one was black. Hardly ever see another 3rd gen, can go months with no sightings.

I've seen a ton of 3rd gens lately, probably 10 or more a week. I also see at least 2-3 2nd gens per day.

I think they're referring to the SE model. In 5-speed, even more rare.

That's crazy. I figured there would be more over there with the higher gas prices. There are tons of Yarises (Yarii?) in central VA. I also see echo coupes and sedans pretty frequently, but not as frequently as yarises.

there are virtually no small cars here and yep we have the highest gas prices in the nation

there seems to be 3 camps here:

the tesla/ prius holier than thou/ we think we're superior group

the giant suv/ giant minivan/ expensive mercedes/ bmw spend more than you earn forever car payment group

the giant 4 door monster pickup truck just stupid group

and i hate all of 'em

i belong to the exclusive spend less than i earn live below my means and responsibly save for retirement group

I've spotted only a small handful of Yaris SE hatchbacks on the roads in Phoenix, AZ or surrounding areas since they debuted in 2012 with the first 3rd gens. Its one of the rarest 'modern day' cars on the road here, if not THE rarest (unicorn rare in 2015-2017 SE refresh version). Even the 2012+ non-SE hatchbacks are very very uncommon. I have yet to see a single 2018 refresh version Yaris hatchback on the road, in any trim level out here. The SE wasn't even sold in this region (or in 2016-2017), & the L/LE only at a couple of dealerships (one token unit at a few dealerships that literally sat around unsold for the entire year). Pretty sad, considering it is probably the most long-term reliable 2018 model car sold in the U.S.

While it isn't anywhere near as common as a Corolla, Civic, or Sentra, the IA (Mazda2) version Yaris sedan has a better presence out here (mainly because dealers actually stocked them in decent numbers).

In regards to the post above mine, most of the drivers here (at least in areas where I normally drive through) also fit into one the 3 categories described by justanotherdrunk above, along with a 4th category I will call the 'OMG not another Corolla/Civic' category.

Love your Yaris, jad. Wish I had a 5 door instead of a 3 door hatch.

2018 hatches are ultra rare, sales #'s went way down. But, lots of used 2017's from rental companies.

I still have yet to see a 2018 Yaris hatch of any trim level on the road in this region. I bet the SE version is ultra rare & number in the few hundreds for the entire USA.
