Purchased a 2008 Yaris with 58,000 miles. Need to do my first oil change on it. Unfortunately due to apartment moves I had to jettison stuff like my oil drain catch pan and storage jug. Trying to remember the last one I used. Can anyone recommend a good catch pan? I went to Chris Fix's site and sees he recommends:

I used to have a different style. Thoughts appreciated.

I have one similar to that, but the top isn't as deep. I got it at wal mart for like 12 bucks and works fine.

Thanks Lee. Found it on eBay with free shipping for a couple bucks more.
Now, I just need to find a good spot to perform the oil change....

I use this:

https://www.amazon.com/Capri-Tools-CP21024-Portable-gallon/dp/B00JJ63RNS/

Perfect size for the Yaris. Slides right under car. Can do oil change with the car on the ground. No need to jack it up. 2 gallon capacity. Very sturdy, integrated lip makes it easy to empty. I haven't spilled a drop since I started using it. 5 star item IMHO.

A nice little trick is to cut a Mobil 1 quart bottle in half to use as a funnel. The threads on bottle top match the threads on the valve cover. Just screw it in and pour. No need to do the one hand pour, one hand hold the funnel shuffle.

Just curious, how much does an oil change cost you guys when you do it yourself? I've taken mine to the dealer since day one, which in the long run is probably not the wisest move if I want to save money. And what do you do with the old oil once it's drained? Thanks.

Thanks. For mid priced synth oil and filter its about 30$ when I do it myself, been so long that I forgot what dealers and quick lube places charge ha. I hold up the oil into old jugs and whenever I have the time I just take them to advanced auto and dump it into their waste oil tank (I'm sure other stores have it as well).
