No room to pull lower alternator bolt out with ratchet so I used a 14mm locking flex head wrench angled to fit between alternator and a/c lines.

You should remove water pump pulleys bolts with belt on. I didn’t and put a 9 inch 1/4 extension to prevent pulley from turning. Scared back of pulley a bit. I used a new pulley so wasn’t concerned .

I removed 10mm water pump bolts/nuts with a 8 inch matco 1/4 drive ratchet . Lowest bolt is near the hump in pump at bottom. I accidentally removed timing cover bolt that is very close to water pump bolt.

Removed pump. Far right is bottom bolt hole that’s hard to tighten and close to timing cover bolt . Note dried pink coolant

Install new gasket and pump . Tighten to 11nm or 97 inch lbs. I used 100 inch pounds. Shown is gearwrench torque wrench between pump and firewall. The back nut and bottom bolt had to be done leaning on engine cover torque wrench towards firewall.

The gasket scrapers. A razor blade at 90 or a SK gasket scraper with my thumb on top so it stays flat .

I replaced factory hose clamp with a work drive clamp. It was hard to get back on thermostat housing even when compressed all the way with hose clamp pliers .

Due to close proximity of fender, it takes some maneuvering to get alternator and water pump in and out but definitely doable.

This looks like quite a bit of work! Gosh I miss my old Skoda 105, I could change this in 5 minutes there!

Wasn’t too bad. Had to finagle water pump and alternator in and out. Thin head ratchets helped a lot. It was very hard to keep socket on lowest water pump bolt when torquing to spec. Plus it was a pain scraping the minimal rubber gasket residue off due to tight quarters .
