I need your opinions. I am looking to buy a second hand hatch. I know a Yaris. But i want something different. Decided on two contenders. Honda Fit and Ford Fiesta.

Just want your opinion which is better and what should i look out for

I've heard the fiesta and the focus are lemons. I used to work with guys that owned both. Granted these were 2017/2016 models. The fiesta had 3 ecu changes under warranty and the focus had a host of electrical problems. The fiesta was driven by my coworkers wife for toting the kid around and the focus was driven by a family man for commuting. Neither of these drivers are hard on their vehicles.

I'd go with the fit.

Unless the Fiesta in the Australian market is a much different vehicle than what was delivered in the North American market, stay far away from it.

Good point. Could be a different car in other markets. But I know the canadian ones are garbage.

Yeah, it's the Aussie Fiesta. Heard it's the automatic that's problematic but the manual wont give you grief.

When I was shopping for my Yaris I checked out all the other hatches available here. The Yaris won but the Fit was a close second.

Yes her fiesta with the ecu issues was an automatic

I'd personally stay far away from the Fiesta. Fit would be my choice, hands down. If I hadn't bought a Yaris, I would have bought a Fit. I have some days regretted not buying the Fit, because they are such awesome and reliable little subcompacts. Good luck.

Fit seems like a pretty cool platform

I actually originally wanted a Fit. But in 2009, I was a new college graduate, so money was an issue. I went with the Yaris only because it was the less expensive option. You should go with the Fit, you'll be really happy with it.

Actually my very first car was a Ford. 1000 years ago when I was a teenager. It was a Ford Laser with a Carby engine. I treated it like a Ferrari. It was a fun unit. God knows where it's at now. My old man owned a Ford Cortina. That thing was a bomb but he couldn't afford a car with 5 kids he did what he had to do. I remember he would tinker with it like he was some DIY mechanic but it broke down a lot it wasn't too bad it got us from place to place.

Oh, man memories of Ford. Might return to my roots.

fiestas have major problems with the auto power-shift transmissions if you're going auto (though im not sure how far that extends into the newer models). the rear seats are properly tight (if you have kids/family or friends with legs). i had a friend with a 2011-ish fiesta that had water get into his fuse box and rotted out all the wiring.

that said, id totally rock an ST or a 1.0T model (SFE, i think)

otherwise, the honda fit is the superior car overall. whatever you spend on sticker price for the fit will be made up in low maintenance, overall quality, and resale.

i would go fit over fiesta

I researched further and found that the 5 speed manual also has problems with the reverse gear grinding because FORD only has one synchro instead of two.

Upon finding this out. We have decided to get a 2019 Honda fit/jazz manual. Which is the base model. You can't get manual in mid to higher trim:thumbdown:

But i can't wait.:headbang:

myfirstyota, you're right. I love my Yaris, and it's been nothing but a badass little reliability superstar for me, thus far. I see myself keeping this car as long as I possibly can. But if I had to buy a car tomorrow, and seeing that I love subcompacts, I'd probably buy a manual Fit since the Yaris is now a Mazda.

I loved my 2007 Yaris but time to move on. I'm excited to try those seating configuration with the magic seats. I think you can sleep in this thing. You can't say that about a Yari..

I got the manual, luna silver, 15 inch chrome factory wheels, floor mats and tinted windows. LET"S GO! :headbang:

First thing I would do is add a the rear sway bar....:headbang: And go from there. Slowly make more adjustments.

I've seen 4 YouTube videos by 4 different people on how they configured their Yaris into a mini-camper. It can be done, for sure.

I slept in my blue 08 hatch for 3 days at a time while working in ottawa.

I had already ripped out the back seats and made a flat floor. I decided to remove the passenger seat and continue the flat floor up to the dash. Threw a small air mattress from dash to trunk on the passenger side. Because I have an air horn in the car, I hooked the air to the mattress with an air blower attachment. If i lost air overnight, I'd just lean over, hit the trigger on the air blower and inflate the mattress in 3 seconds. It was a decent setup considering I'm 6'1"

I get tall mode, long mode, refresh mode, utility mode.

It's like sleeping in a 5 star hotel. I kid, i kid. I never thought about sleeping in a Yari. But I am thinking about trying it out in a Jazz.

I wonder what I can use tall mode for. I don't have a dog or a bike hmmm...

Hmmm, Just got the Fit.

Verdict not bad. Didn't put a smile on me face like an old school 2007 Yaris did. Not getting that go cart experience. But it isn't too bad. You have to rev the tits out of this to get the most of it. On the motorway it's sitting at 3'5 grand rev is kinda loud. Maybe it's been awhile since i have driven small hatches. But the noise lol. Overall it's very refined, i guess. Probably sell it in a few years.

Not exactly a rave review  I've always been a fan of Honda's fit and finish. They're inputs are very crispy, too. Steering, gearbox, etc. I remember hating my Yaris gearbox having come from a Civic before it.

The engine is strong for what it is but it revs to 3.5 at 70 miles/h at the motor way. Sounds like a sewing machine:laugh: The gear box is notchy. I can't remember the Yaris being this notchy. I prefer the slide and glide in type.

It's refine though. It's not a fidgety as the yaris.

But future plans is to engine swap L15B7. I believe it's the same engine in the civic and CRV.:headbang:

That's about where the yaris would sit at 70mph on the hiway no?

Honestly I dont remember. My red car's speedo reads faster due to the Xd transmission and slightly smaller tires, and the blue car's speedo reads slower due to the oversized tires.

I Agree. May have to mt90 redline this because the gearbox is very notchy.

I figured out how she likes to be shifted. It needs to be cupped and put into gears....

Anyway, this car is very refined. Rides the bumps so good. The engine likes to be revved out and it's kinda fun...

It just needs better noise insulation and it's almost perfect daily..

Honda fits are made in China? The only thing that I can see wrong with this is the left front door needs an extra thump to close.:bellyroll: Damn, you... CHINA.

I will comb it through to see if there's anymore imperfection i can find.

This car is growing on me. Impressed what i can FIT in it. I did some renovations. I had 5 stacks of laminated flooring. Ikea is another place I can save money on delivery.I put 3 large boxes in this car I bought a large corner desk lol. I had square galvanized tube about 2 meters long lol.Now I will take it for a 5 hour road trip. See how she goes. It's not bad on the highway gearing is a it off but you get use to it.

Plan on putting a k24 motor and k20 6 speed box in the future.

I love the long mode which you can lay down like it's a couch. If only it had sleep mode where it folds flat and you can sleep in it,

Yeah, mate.Took it for a road trip absolute star on the highway.Understand why it revs high it can cruise all the day long and has some go.Its not as playful as my old 07 yaris on the bends but not bad.But it is significantly quieter and comfortable with more power.Cruise control is helpful as well. The K swap will transform this car, indeed.:headbang:
