View Full Version : Better Tyres front or rear ?

Hi Everyone,

I'm about to change my tyres - i have 07 sedan -

My old set up was Kumho Ecsta Ku31, honestly i was very satisfied with this tyre performance and handling during cornering.

i got a good deal on Michelin Pilot sport 3 but i can't afford having 4 tyres of them it's a bit expensive

so i decided to go 2 tyres Michelin ps3 and 2 tyres Kumho Ecsta PS31 which is considered as a sport tyre as well and my previous experince with Kumho Ecsta is really nice.

So, should i have the Michellin (which is providing better grip / traction) on front or rear ?

i'm looking for better performance / handling
(i'm having BC coilover suspension installed)

Tyre size : 16R 205/50

I would recommend all 4 tires be the same. If you can't afford all 4 of them, then buy 4 that you can.

If you are only replacing 2 tyres, then the new ones go in the rear. It doesn't matter if the car is front wheel drive or rear wheel drive.

If I'm understanding correctly the OP is replacing all 4 tires, 2 sets of 2, from different manufacturers. I don't see the point of doing so. Better to have common behavior from the same tires at all 4 corners IMHO.

Yes, I just reread the post and indeed that seems to be the case! :iono:

I would have to agree with you that it would certainly be best to install 4 identical tyres.

If the OP insists on this rather unusual purchase, then install the rubber with the best braking characteristics on the rear axle.

I believe that is correct.

In e case of a blow out at higher speeds in the front, you can usually recover without a serious incident. .

However, if a rear blows out, at higher speeds, it can potentially be quite dangerous .
