Hey all. I’ve had ongoing issues with the serpentine belt screech. I’ve adjusted tension multiple times and the screech comes back. Finally I cracked the adjustment bracket. In removing the items I notice the main mounting/pivot bolt has a ton of slop in it. So when I adjust the tension, the alternator pulley becomes crooked. I have gathered the Scion xD bracket parts to modify and replace the original bracket. Big difference in thickness and quality. I’m sure this is where my squeak is coming from.

My question is...does the lower alternator mounting bolt location have a replaceable bushing? Or what would you suggest to tighten the mount? The bolt is not worn at all.

Are you not tightening the bottom bolt?

These cars are very particular about belts. Use an OEM belt as all the others seem to squeal. You don't have to go to the dealer as you can find them on-line. I over-torqued my belt and wore out the water pump prematurely so it was back to an OEM belt and no prob.

I am a new member here but currently experiencing your original issue of extreme slop in that bolt when fully tightened. Working on 07 Yaris. It keeps throwing the belt. I have replaced the water pump with a oe Toyota and alternator from AZ. Alternator kicks to one side during tensioning. Did you come up with a fix? Thanks!

Remove the alternator and look for holes that aren't round.
