I've noticed on my 5spd that sometimes, but not all the time, when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, the shifter sometimes wants to pop out of 1st gear when I clutch in and initiate the shift. It won't pop out of gear on its own, but only sometimes (not always) when I hands on initiate the shift. Anyone know what this could possibly be? Anything to worry about? Is it normal?
Thanks in advance.

Never had a gear pop out by itself on any car I've owned. Definitely not normal. Could be a number of things that are starting to fail, from bushings to forks.

Agreed. I have never had this issue with my 08. I would start with checking the transmission fluid. I don't believe the manual tranny has a dipstick though (I could be wrong, haven't looked for a while) so you'd have to check the level via the fill plug.

I'd check motor mounts too.

Taking it into Toyota Service Center on Friday. If there's anything wrong, I'll update. Thanks for all the replies, fellow Yarisworlders.

Mine's a manual and I haven't experienced this either. Hoping for good news for you from the service center...

Hi Yarisworlders. Went to the service center today and the axle is leaking, and he showed me where the gear oil is leaking. So, they're going to fix it today and I'll get it back later. I'm hoping that this was the source of the problem I was experiencing due to lower levels of gear oil caused by the axle leaking. One question I have is could I have in any way caused the axle seal to leak? Thanks in advance.
