Hi,

I have a Yaris T sport from 2001 with the 1.5 liter engine with the manual 5 speed gearbox.

I changed the trans fluid today, the toyota dealer (and the manual) stated that it would take 1.9 liters, i did add 1.9 liters but it didnt flow over the lip. Should I add more or let it be?

Thanks

I'm interested in the answer to this too. I will be doing mine soon. From the brief reading I've done, I think you just keep pouring until it starts to dribble out of the upper plug. What gear oil did you use?

Yeah, I hope we get some answers! I saw another guy that asked the same thing, hes transmission didnt overflow when adding 1.9 liters.

I used the Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle 75W-90, it's API GL-4. Do not use a GL-5, even if the manual say so. ( https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116/gl-4-vs-gl-5-a-201741/ )

If the dealer said an actual amount then stick with that. Normally filling until it spills out the fill hole is standard procedure for pretty much all cars/trucks/bikes etc. But that's only if actual measured amounts aren't available.

You should really stay with the Toyota 75w GL4 oil, or you probably get bad shifting, these old toyota gear boxes dont like multigrade oil.

This should be the same at a much higher price for our US friends.

Thats not what the toyota dealer stated nor the manual tho, not for this gearbox.
