you just feel the rear being jerked back a bit as if the rear is doing the braking. I tried it on automatic car and this is the result. as for the manual i believe you're suppose to press on the clutch and pull the e-brake up at the same time.

yeah, the rear will pull, but if you start to turn, you will start lose control as your rear end will slide.

With a FWD, no need to press the clutch, as the driven wheels and the braking wheels are nto the same. With a rear wheel drive, though, if you lock the rear wheels with the handbrake, you will also lock the engine, since they are connected, hence the need for the clutch

I've done that at 25 mph in a '91 Eclipse. Even without turning the wheel, it did a 180 spin out, I guess because the hand brake is only attached to one rear wheel, causing the drag on one side only. It was fun! I would imagine in something as tall as the Yaris though, a sideways slide would not be recommended, especially at high speed (roll over!).

I dont think you should try it because i think only the pros drift at like 80 mph. I drift everyday in a 2006 Acura TL type-S and the new Jettas and i usually only reach 40 mph.

drift in an acura tl? are you sure? the TL isnt the right car for that... power sliding can be done but with the e-brake or some powerover turning. but all in all the TL is a FWD heavyweight :frown: they are dogs on power too. why dont you trade in for an s2000 or something? trust me its a much more fun car to drive or if you are serious about drifting and is a more balanced car. just a suggestion. i have taken the 2005-2007 TL apart from top to bottom numerous times due to common water leaks and i wasnt happy to see the bad design on the frame and interior construct. (lots of noise complaints too) anyways good luck with the TL.

So you are doing this with customer cars eh? Better yet, on dealer property. And its special that the Service Manager allows it.

Just let me find some knucklehead 'drifting' my car out back. Good thing my attorney's number is on speed dial. I'd like a dealer to actually pay me for once.

Could you again list the name of this dealer so yarisworld members can avoid it? Thanks.

Sounds like you better get a rental car to find out. Make a video too. Make sure your will is up to date as well.

LOL. Prime example of why drifting is being thought of as a ricer sport even though it actually takes skill....

Doesn't the E-break only work on one side, or is it tied into both drums?

Back in the old days doing something like that would result in a brief puff of smoke and no more tension on the E-break handle.

Instead of trying to video taping customers cars videotape your own car(yaris) since this is a Yaris web page  And you can safe yourself some trouble (if you crash someone else car)
I'll be waiting for that video

Steve, just a friendly heads-up... if I was a customer and discovered you were doing that in my car, I would beat you to a quivering bloody lump with a tire iron, and I'm damn near a pacifist. You might wanna' not do that anymore, before you get caught by someone with a much shorter fuse than myself.

Every time I did my 2 weeks active duty in the navy, every time we got into a rental van or car, it was our "duty" to give the hand brake a workout. We would always leave flat spots on the tires we did it so much. We were only doing about 20-30MPH though, but it was fun as hell! One time we had a 4WD Astro van in Fallon, NV and we beat the shit outta that things parking brake. We went from Fallon to Chico, CA to the Sierra Nevada Brewing company and had beer with the brewmaster. That was a blast!

Heh that reminds me of an article in a recent Top Gear magazine form the UK... 100 most fun cars to drive... Guess what was #1? "Any rental car"
Which is true, you can rent a car, as long as you don't wreck it, you can do whatever you want, and return it the next day with a big smile on your face

This is why the US Government will pay 10 million to replace an Astro panel van.

i've ebraked fairly hard at 100mph. nothing hollywood happens. you just slow down a bit. of course this was on an 8 year old car so the ebrake was likely not as tight as it could have been.
