I am currently owned GLS 2001 1.3 auto with 233,000 miles on the clock, the car is tired torn seat material, rust on the paint work, the MOT need quite a few job to be done, I felt it is better to get another same Yaris what I owned now, I did search on Autotrader and test driver, I have noticed the 1.3 engine T-Sprint design engine is different to my GLS, The GLS have plastic inlet manifold in the front, the later version have CAT exhaust manifold in the front. I was a wonder the one with front CAT would be less power than the GLS? The automatic that I currently have is torque converter are the later model fit with MMT that I wish to avoid.

I would also stay away from MMT transmission, it has to many issues/faults and is expensive to repair.
Buy a XP13 from 2011 and up instead, it has CVT transmission and has no issues.
Or buy a hybrid if you dont need a tow hitch.
example this is a nice one with panorama roof and auto climate.
And cruise will only cost af few bucks for the stalk.

I think the difference was that because some were French made and some were Japanese made there were 2 different engines which ended up in our market. I think the 2SZ-FE engines were the intake manifold at the front and the 2NZ-FE had the exhaust manifold at the front. I know all the MK2's only came with the 2SZ-FE engine. My sister had a MK2 with that engine and the 5 speed. It was fairly nippy.

I'd stay away from the MMT ones. Nothing but trouble.
