Hello!

New here, but not to driving my Yaris. At 115k miles I am installing the car's 3rd battery. I have seen lots of posts on corrosion on the terminals, but I am experiencing an issue with corosion of a different kind: rust. The nuts on the battery hold downs just won't come off (pb break blaster nor heat helped). I cut off the J bolt on the front, but once I got the battery out of the way I say that the back doesn't mount in the same way.

I rather not have to buy a new carrier tray (toy p/n 74410-0D210). Has anyone else run into this? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Get a can of fluid film. Its safe to use on battery terminals & the hold downs. Get a used carrier from a junk yard.

Thanks for the replies. I found myself with some free time and good weather today.

The carrier (tray) was easier to repair than I expected. Removal requires prying off all the plastic wire clips and 4-5 bolts. The threaded stud for the rear battery hold down point was only held in with two plug welds. I ended up grinding them out and welding in a piece of all thread. A coat of spray paint later and its good as new. I used the same material to make a new J bolt for the front (because I am cheap). Saved $70-80 over a junk yard, but it was still the longest I ever took to swap a battery.
