Does it eventually start? check for fuel pressure, maybe the fuel pump is about to give out. I also have an 08 Yaris, I thought about replacing my fuel pump, maybe even upgrading it, since another 08 Yaris owner that I know had his fuel pump replaced earlier this year.

Try turning the ignition on for 15 seconds then turn it off. Repeat five times then try to start it. It just might be the fuel pump
Let us know what happens!

I had similar behavior... car did not start at first try, but it did start on second try.
Turned out that a fancy sticker I put close to the ignition slot actually contained some alluminium foil in it which for some reason confused the immobilizer. Everything went back to normal once I removed the sticker.

Wow, I bet you were glad to figure that out. I can imagine how much time I would have wasted and never figured that out. haha.
