View Full Version : 2ZR life expectancy?

I read that the 2ZR-FE block is all aluminum....there are no steel sleeves in the piston bores. Because of this the engine bore cannot be bored oversize and the engine rebuilt. How long do these engines last in the real world?
My 1NZ-FE has 250,000 miles on it and runs perfectly. I have no doubt it is good for another 250,000 miles with just oil changes.
Is a 150,000 mile 2ZR from a junk yard at the end of its life now?
Also, anybody swap pistons from a 2ZR-FXE into a 2ZR-FE for 13:1 compression? Curious if it runs ok on 93 octane.

They definitely will have steel liners!
But they will just be thin and cast into the block in such a way that there's not enough to bore them out any further.

450,000km on my 2zr, still ran daily duty when pulled. No clue how it was treated prior to when I got my hands on it at 350,000km. But judging by the mess of the donor car, I'd say it didn't have a perfect maintenance history. However I can say the last 100,000km it took a beating. WOT daily. Regular oil changes @ 5000km. I'd put it back in if there wasn't a hole in the intake manifold (no fault of the engine).

That is good to hear. When I read about them having an all aluminum block, I had flashbacks to the chevy vega engines. They were throw away engines after 40,000 miles or so.

The engine will outlive the car in most scenarios if cared for. Hell, just change the oil and throw an air filter at it once in a while and you'll go a long ways with it. What one would describe as "bullet proof"

That is the way I feel about my 1NZ-FE.
My sedan is still rust free/wreck free...I would love the extra power but would hate to find out that the junkyard motor had issues.

Nice to hear. I have a 2015 with forty four thousand miles on the clock and i do not think it is broken in! The first 17K where Grand ma miles then she gave it to me! I am so lucky! :)
