MY 2019 TOYOTA YARIS, has less than 18,000. I brought it in for an inspection sticker recently and was told I needed new front brakes and rotors. The reason being, I did not drive the car enough during covid. It cost me over $500. as brakes are not covered on the warranty. Has anyone else had this problem? The brakes now squeak when I depress brake pedal.

I can’t imagine why your brakes would be worn out or need work after 18,000 miles.

Did they work on the brakes?

As I said, I went in for an inspection sticker in Augusta, Maine where I bought the car. They would not pass it because they said it needed new brakes and rotors. I asked why would a fairly new car need new brakes and rotors. They said it was because I did not drive it enough due to Covid. I asked to see a rotor which they went out back and came up with. I have submitted several complaints to Toyota Customer complaints online and also by phone. No explanation.

Got a picture of the rotor?

The Covid diagnosis sounds like total BS. I suppose the rotors could rust since you don’t drive it much.

Do you live by the ocean?

I have used Toyota customer service when my oil sensor failed add 36,000 miles and they gave me half off the repair.

They were pretty good to me you did the right thing by contacting them

You didn’t say if they fixed it or not but they brought you the old rotor so I guess they fixed it?

It cost me over $500. for the new front brake pads and rotors. I had no choice because I needed the inspection ticket. Toyota customer service has not responded. I don’t live near the ocean. I do live in Augusta, Maine. I don’t have a photo of the rotor, no.

Well you saw the rotor. Was it rusted? Were there grooves in it? I guess you didn’t see the brake pads but I would have demanded to see them to.

I would say it’s just about impossible for a normal person to where the front brakes out in 18,000 miles. Maybe with mountain driving up and down hill. Even that’s a stretch.

I wish I could help you it doesn’t sound like they did right by you

I absolutely feel ripped off by Toyota. If it were true that not driving the car enough caused the bad brakes and rotors then there should be a lot more people with a 2019 Yaris that needs new brakes because many of us had to work remotely last year.
