I have a new to me 2017 Yaris L that only came with one generic key (not Toyota branded). I would like to get a second spare key made for the car. Is there a procedure on programming the new key to the car or is TIS software needed?

Second question.....the car has power locks and windows. Can a remote FOB be added to the car?

Contact a local locksmith they can do it cheaper than the dealer.

So, the key need to be programmed with TIS then? I was going to order this if so: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B097YC5LSR/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3P0RLC73U3IAI&psc=1

What about adding a keyless remote key FOB? Can one do that or does the car have to be originally sold with one?

I don’t know about TIS. I have to believe you can get an aftermarket remote. Do some research on Amazon.

Good luck and tell us what happens!

Evidently on my 2017 the Toyota TIS software is needed to communicate with the ECM to program a new key to the car.

As far as adding in a Toyota keyless remote entry FOB I don't know if that's even possible unless it was originally equipped with them as built new. That's another thing I'm trying to find out. The L's did not even though it has power windows/locks.

A locksmith might answer your question

$25 shipped for an "H" blank key. $80 to have it cut and programmed by local locksmith.

In order to add keyless entry there is a TPMS control box of some sort in the rear of the car that would need to be changed to allow for keyless entry. Looks like $175 just for the box. I'll pass.....I can turn a key in the door.

Very good sounds great! I like my wife’s 2005 Camry. A new key is two dollars! When I bought my 2020 corolla it came with a remote. I’m glad I did because I have Parkinson’s, but I had to have a new key made anyway cause I want three keys. I would never buy a remote when I wasn’t disabled nor would I buy automatic transmission, power windows and locks or power mirrors waste of money.

But not now!

HI, having problems getting a 2nd fob for my 2020 Yaris. The dealer said they ordered one from Toyota, but couldn't program it to my Yaris.

What does TIS mean in relation to programming my fob? I'm wondering if my dealer even knows what they are doing.

Is it your 2020 Yaris made by Mazda? Maybe see the Mazda dealer?
