I recently failed state inspection because I was told that the side marker lights on my 07 Yaris would not illuminate. I have verified that this is in fact true, but they still blink when I activate my directional. I was able to replace just the bulb, but it didn't change anything. Are these supposed to illuminate when I turn my headlights on? I called Toyota directly and couldn't even get a straight answer from them. Any help would be appreciated.

I think the person checking the car doesn't know what he is talking about.
AFAIK the lights in the front guards are only repeaters for the blinkers.

They aren't side markers just, indicators.

A picture would help so we know exactly which lights you are referring to.

If you are referring to the little oval shaped lights on the front fender above the wheel, then no, these are not constantly on when headlights are activated. They are indeed only turn signal indicators.
