Greetings,

I have a 2008 Yaris HB with 140K miles that has the 2-bar fuel gauge issue. Gas ran out at 2-bars already. I see that the fuel sending unit might be the issue. Looks like the OEM fuel sending unit is less than $100. Not sure how much it would cost to get it replace in So. Cal. I see the OEM fuel pump is about $300. Replacement (non-OEM) fuel pumps seem to be around $100. My son is going to take it up to college and I rather have everything working.

- Replace the sending unit only with the OEM one
- Replace the whole fuel pump with a non-OEM fuel pump
- Replace with the OEM fuel pump.

All 3 options should cost the same labor. The last option would be the most expensive. I know the other suggestion would be to watch the trip meter, etc. Please advice.

Thanks,

GHTech

its actualy a simple swap ..and i thought there was an in floor access to it under the rear seat

but yeah your sender is bad without a doubt, as for the pump, unless its sludged up or you make a habbit of running the tank neer empty all the time should be fine, tho i totaly get doing preventitive maintinance

We bought it used, so we have no idea how it was maintained before. I believe the back seat needs to be removed, and the pump can be removed from there. The local Toyota dealer quoted $700 to swap out the pump.
