I live in the rust belt and recently had my exhaust (after the manifold, including catalytic converter, all the way back) replaced on my 2008 Yaris hatchback because of corrosion and some welded areas failing. I had it replaced with an OEM model. Initially the new muffler was making a very obnoxious noise when going over a bump or cornering hard, especially on left turns. The shop confirmed it was making contact with the bottom of the vehicle. They replaced the muffler with what they said was an updated OEM model (the tailpipe has a wider diameter).

Now it isn't making a noise when going over a bump, but instead when starting from a stop, especially on an incline. It is also occurring again sometimes when cornering left hard. I am taking it in again, but they are one of those shops that only seems to know how to remove and install full new parts rather than actually solve your problem specific to your vehicle. Any ideas? Is there something that can be done with the hangers to hang it lower?

Thank you.

Buy longer exhaust hangers.

Can you recommend some that are longer than the stock ones?
