Seat Upgrades: Anyone finally make some headway on this?

So it's been a number of years now since seat upgrades were talked about. Anyone landed on one that they really like? Aside from the VW Golf or Scion xB seats?

I just finished trying '07 RS hatchback seats in my '07 sedan and while I appreciated the mild improvements, it wasn't quite worth it. Mostly because the slightly more elevated hatchback seat made my head touch the headliner unless severely reclined. The other reason was that I didn't find them nearly as comfortable as when I swapped Echo RS seats into my girlfriend's '04 Echo. THAT swap was a night and day difference. Oh and the bolstering didn't like the presence of the centre console.

Anyways, would 2012+ Yaris seats fit in an 06-11 Yaris? Are they any better? Anyone gone fully custom with seat rails and a racing seat?

scion xd seats. passenger seatbelt latch swap with yours needed.

celica (late 90s bug eye??) someone local did it and he is historically not very crafty. lol.

I've been wanting to try a pair of Toyobaru seats in my 3rd gen for a while but Im pretty sure its gonna require mods

AFAIK the floor pan is identical between the Prius C and 3rd gen Yaris so this should work. Gonna source a set of Toyobaru seats and gen 3 seat rails and find out. :thumbsup:

Great links! Thank you. I'd probably have better luck finding GT86/FRS/BRZ seats in my area. If it truly is a matter up just swapping the Yaris rails onto the seat + offsetting some holes 1/2" that really isn't that bad.

I'm curious how comfortable they are and if they have lumbar adjustment.

How do you like your xD seats? Have a photo of them in your car?

On another note: you don't find your 3rd Gen seats that comfy either? Visually they look much nicer than the 2nd Gens, but I guess that doesn't attest to their comfort level.

I don't find them that bad, its no Lincoln Town Car(I had a 1989 and 2003) but I've done many long 5+ hour drives in it with no issue, just the usual stiffness when getting out. They are MILES better than the seats in the 1999 Tercel that my car replaced lol.

Those look sharp with the Clazzio covers man. Without them, they look pretty similar to my Yaris sedan seats actually. Do they have any other adjustments than tilt and raise/lower height?

when it comes time...maybe next year at the current rate..id KILL for something that sits even an inch lowwer in a 3/5dr thats more comfy with a lil more side bolster

No, just the usual 6 way manual adjust. up/down, front/back and recline.

I forgot to update this thread. I picked up some FRS seats in great condition and some Planted seat brackets to aid in the retrofit. Only issue is that I completely overlooked the electronics aspect in terms of the passenger occupancy sensor for the airbag, as well as having to transfer over buckles. Buckles shouldn't be difficult, but I'm SOL on the sensor as CTScott no longer produces his bypass kit. Anyone got around this recently?

You want the seats from a zz231 celica. Ive read they bolt in but I am waiting to buy some to confirm.

Late 2006 on celica seats will have the same airbag and seat sensors letting us keep the factory air bag seat up is the main reason I want to try.

They are both small cars so dimensions wise they will be mint its just if the rails work or can be swapped.

I don't actually have the FRS seats installed yet. I went as far as buying them and working on the seat brackets before even having looked underneath them. Zero cognitive processing in that moment. Live and learn. Airbags are important to me, so if I can't get them to work then I'll cut my losses before hacking up the seat rails.

has anyone done TC seats..they sure loook like a hell of an improvement..was eyeballing a set in the wrecker today...god i HATE smokers..they ALWAYS burn the damn seats

The 2012+ seats are a bit wider and more comfortable, but they don't fit in an 06-11 Yaris without modification. You'll have to find the right parts and fabricate them, and then you'll need to get the seats installed and wired. It's a big project, but if you're willing to put in the work, it can make a big difference in the comfort and look of your Yaris.

as a fabricator, general mechanic and retired autobody....i can say that seat tracks are the "easy part" but the seat shape is the real issue, which is why i ask..pan and spring depth is the one the will almost always be the primary issue, followed by back rest stop points and total rise....those 2 things are a "make or break" for fitting in ANY car...most of which cant be verifyed without having both the seats and the body and tossing them in place to figure it out

rail width is fairly easy to overcome "if" theres nothing low hanging under the seat

Small update...

I noticed that 09-12 Yaris Sedans out of the United States can come have nicer looking seats than previous sedan and hatchback years. See attached photo. Can anyone attest to them having improved comfort? The big hurdle for obtaining them would be finding some in half-decent condition and without an enormous shipping bill up to Washington where I can at least cross the border and grab them without having to drive down to California.

A more realistic solution is to work with what I've got. The seat brackets are ready to go (I highly recommend just dropping the coin on the Planted ones) and I found a work around (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/seat-occupancy-sensor-and-air-bag-simulator.681886/) on the Tacoma forums that at least solves the PASSENGER wiring issues since it involves retaining the seat sensors/harness out of your stock seats. The DRIVER seat positioning sensor is not address in the thread, so I'll have to come up with something. Without a datum for reference measurements, I don't know how the heck I would accurately retrofit the position sensor on the FSR seat... I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
