View Full Version : Your Yaris Goals

Exactly what it says.

What are you looking to do if anything with your Yaris? Have a daily driver and looking for nothing more or are you wanting to bring something to the sub-compact performance playing ground and lay a smack down on unsuspecting motorists?

I'm more than curious of the direction people are wanting to take this vehicle. I've yet to obtain one of my own but am currently doing extensive research on it and its' competitors with the likelyhood of an outcome coming within the next recent months.

You can list current and sought after modifications . Expected competition levels (Track/Show), etc... Just give me beneficial feedback that can be used as a benchmark for newbs and elders alike. Somone will want to come across what the hell we're wanting to do with these things.

So what do you want?

What are you waiting for!

I already have new tires and rims. I have springs to lower it, just not installed yet.

i want to add:
speakers, possibly an amp/sub
dvd in-dash with iPod aux
exhaust tip
seat covers or just new seats altogether
possibly paint the inside console red

that's about it...........for now.

I believe the "JDM" fixation is like the alteza's/ rice fixation everyone had back in the 90's...

Sounds good!

Since I'm already leaning towards a Yaris and most likely will be shopping for one shortly I'll post a trimmed list of what I would do.

Exterior:
Kaminari Kit
Factory USDM Wing
Flat Black Scheme done by moi

Interior:
Bride Front Buckets
Takata Harnesses
Rear Seat matched to Buckets
Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel & Shift Knob
Fiberglass dash mounted Tach/OilTemp/AFR Guage pod

Suspension:
Tien Coilovers
Swaybars
Front Tower Braces
Subframe Brace

16" or 17" wheels

Power is where I'm currently stumped. Not sure if I want to go with a charger or a turbo. I've seen the few products that are currently out and would probably wait a while longer for more released items, as well as, research on how the Yaris can handle the gains I'm looking for... If someone hits them before I attempt to do so.

I don't get this JDM parts fixation.

JDM tail lights, atenna, cabine pockets and arm rest, coilovers, eyelids, wheels, strut tower bar, pulleys, exhaust, head pipes, supercharger, HID lights .... I am slowly collecting all pieces. It gets me broke but I am happy. Sleep + Eat + JDM = My 24/7!:headbang:

If you are in Singapore, I can understand the car is already expensive there.. Here in USA, Toyota put all economic parts together and price tagged it for $10k "us" dollars. You can understand the same car here has more things to play.

I'm want a good looking daily driver out of my Frog.
So fay I've done nothing more than Tint, an Apple and my 2 of my favorite rock bands stickers, and install a remote door lock system.

In my near future (maybe a week) I'll replace the central console green bulbs to white leds and install a "kicker panel" lighting scheme (a couple of Jumbo red lights per side :P).
in the future, I'll drop it (prolly a 1.2in drop), install a CAI (once CCharles launches it. I'm in no particular rush), and change the rims to 16" silver rims (haven't decided which yet. Budget is critical here)

I like it pretty much the way it is. 40+ mpg average now. The body design to me is excellent.....sort of like a purty woman in blue jeans and t-shirt, you can change her attire, put makeup on her, etc. but you might not improve her a bit, she's got the smooth simple body with all the curves in the right places (excellent design). That said I hate the stock hubcaps, so I'm adding baby moons which I feel is a classic style that has been around since the 30's...smooth, simple, and clean, complimenting the overall design (how many of the hundreds of styles of alloys stay in style more than a few years?). Also I've lowered it. I KNOW no one likes my seat covers but that's a personal gift to me from my daughter, and I could care less what people think! :smoking:

I think you need to check out some of our local cars if you think the aftermarket is thin here - the skirts and spoilers that you guys get so excited about are a dealer-fitted optional accessory, and that's only just the beginning.

You can't get more JDM than importing your own RHD Vitz from Japan. Long ago, one issue of Import Tuner had this guy taking a bare US-market EK Civic hatchback and hanging all-JDM parts onto it, from a genuine EK Type R engine, gearbox, seats, etc. Fine for show and great to read about. He probably went to great expense to do it as well, but it still remained LHD. It kind of takes the shine off the JDM look.

The car costs about US $32000 over here (damn taxes!). Our car's aren't JDM either (made in Thailand). We do have JDM Vitz as a small volume parallel import, and done the comparison, if you wanted to get down to it being JDM through and through, are you going to swap the front windscreen glass just because one is inscribed "Toyota Japan" and the other simply says "Toyota Safety Glass"?

Its just one of probably hundreds of tiny differences that set the Vitz apart from the Yaris.

Its slight, but while both cars look like twins, the more you look around, the more differences you pick up, it feels a little less well put together, the engine sounds a little rougher than a JDM 1NZ-FE, it lacks certain quirky but nice little touches of JDM that have probably been deleted to simplify the manufacture.

Like the guy with the LHD Civic EK9 Type R, it would be a supreme effort to make your car pukka JDM as you want. I'm not raining on your parade, just wondering why, as it is pretty difficult. You wouldn't be the first guy to want to JDM his Yaris, and I suggested the same thing to him the last time - buy a JDM Vitz.

I think I prattled on enough about JDM that I should have my Yaris goals in a new thread.

I just want to keep the shiny side up, given I am an enthusiastic driver at times. But I'll be looking to improve its fun factor mainly with cornering ability (a set of semi slicks looks awfully appealing).

I quite like the factory looks of the car I won't be doing aesthetic mods.

Other than that, it is still an econobox, and I expect to get econobox-type of running costs for this car. I take twice as long to get to 60mph as a WRX, but I use half as much fuel to travel a given distance, and I like that sort of comparison.

Oh! My mods (in order of installation):

15 inch Buddy Club P1 replicas
Michelin Pilot Preceda tires
Philips Silvervision turn indicator bulbs (hand-me-downs)
TTE Lowering Springs
Camber bolt (set to -1.2 degrees)
Vitz Leather Gearknob (the stocker was a horrible sticky rubber knob)
TRD Quick shift (just this week!)

Planned Mods (in order of likelihood)

Leather covered steering wheel
Koni adjustable shock absorbers
Thicker front anti-roll bar, rear anti-roll bar
Semi-slick tires for track day
Bucket seat if I get really serious about tracking
Rear disc brake conversion
Forced induction

all I wanted with a small car with a manual tranmission - like I had in the 80's and 90's.

but both small and manual seem to be qualities i cannot get here in America!

should be living in Canada, Europe, Autralia, South Africa, Japan or Tieland.

any place but here!!

BUT if you like SEDANS, and AUTOMATICS or SUVS or TRUCKS or HUMMERS you can buy a few hundred of em in one afternoon!

.................................................. .........................

Toyota sure makes I tough to buy one of their cars - and seeing that manual hatchbacks to the tune of 250,000 sold in Europe and NOT ONE TO FIND HERE IN THE US!

- is really frustrating.

I will say that if a nice aftermarket option comes along for headlights or tails I will most likely jump on it but I am happy with the looks of the car as is. I will sink what it takes to get the suspension right and that's pretty much it for me except for some mild interior changes.

Seems must of you guys are going for a sportier daily driver with limited mods. Not bad. I'm still wanting complete drive-ability and reliability but with a lot of attitude and style. I can't be bored with my vehicle, I've been bored with this Dodge of mine and I haven't owned it that long. I've been out of the performance scene for a few years and am looking to dive right back in.

I want to pull out the 240sx that I've had in storage for four years and finally get underway with my dream project, but I need something that entertains me on a daily basis.

My question is, Are there any ATTRACTIVE body kits for the Sedans?! I hate the buddy club look, and I saw the other kit currently out. It has nice side skirts and rear fascia, but the front bumper is way overdone. I wish someone made a kit like the Fujita/NOS Sedan that was shown at SEMA.

Any word on other kits coming out soon for the Sedan?

Reason being, If something attractive was out kit wise I'd be swayed in the area of a sedan so I can lug my little future modder around with much more ease.

I am sorry for your initial big bucks to buy the car over there. $30K us money proly can get 3 LBs here. :bellyroll: More about it, us modle here are
"100% Made in Japan"; at least my window sticker said so and also stated its origin province in Japan. :laughabove:

Anyone can spend big bucks on the car to make the car more JDM authentic, but there is always a line of acceptance level, and everyone's line draw differently. The LB model here comes with 2-door only, which did not give me a chance of letting the car been more JDM authentic, but at least Toyota told me that it was actually built in Japan. I am not that crazy to wish the IC chips inside ECM were also Japan-made, but at least I can tell myself: "Joe, this xxxxx part was made and imported from Japan, and now I am about to put it in to my car".

I am hardcore in JDM parts at an illness level (I have seen worse!); JDM IS A PART OF MY CULTURE AND THAT IS MY REASON OF BEEN HARDCORD IN JDM. I'v even asked one of our club vendor/moderator if he knows his O/E parts were actually Jap made. It turned out he is not sure and no one knows if JDM O/E parts were really Jap made either. My brain was tired so I called up my connection and asked to import all parts from Japan Toyota dealer for me. That is the only way for me to tell myself "Yes, I have tried my best".

About the body kit..... yup, same here. I will not put up any bodykit on it since it is my only car that I can eat out peacefully without worry, and stop asking for a table by window. I am not playing cheap on this car, because I have 50% of whole car in custom warp-around-edge clearbra. That costs more than a nice set of JDM bodykit with made-in-usa installation labor.

If you have question about clearbra and where to get the best... mine was done at a store officially contracted by Ferrari, Lambo, Prosche dealers nationwide. I think their work can be considered the best clearbra on Earth! (my LB set a new record of "the cheapest car" in that store's history also :laughabove:)

Well, as far as I can see, "JDM" is all the rage in the US now (just pick up any magazine like Import Tuner or Modified...). It's kind of understandable too, even just looking at the Yaris, in the US they usually get a much different and often inferior version of the Japan-spec car. So, these guys want to bring their cars back to the same kind of level as it should have been, with original parts from Japan. Over time, though, "JDM" has evolved to not include just OEM parts, but other parts and mods which are very Japanese-style.
Some may consider it a pointless waste of money, some may consider it fanatical attention to detail, but it does take a lot of time and dedication to track down these odds and ends that will bring your car closer to what it should really have been like...

As for myself, I see my car as a kind of jack of all trades, master of none... It's gotta look good, it's gotta look somewhat aggressive, but not extreme. Burnout bodykit, smoked head and tail lights, eyelids, and a big fat white stripe down the middle will achieve just that. It'll also need to have a bit more oomph, an engine swap, over here at least, is the most cost-effective way to do this. As much as I would want a mental turbo 3S-GTE swap, the 2ZZ-GE seems most likely, as it is still a decently economical engine when driven below 6000RPM.
Sound system is just fine as it is, not gonna win any sound level or quality awards, but more than enough for me to enjoy, and does not weigh a ton.
Inside, eventually I want to cover most of the dash and consoles in black leather with red stitching to continue the theme, and CF trim parts.

But most of that'll be next year, now is the time to plant a few money trees before anything can happen

My LB is paid for and is my daily while I work on other projects.

Its got:

wheels
lip kit / spoiler
painted interior / engine cover
sub box / amp / deck and lighted filler

Been trying to find a complete 2zz with harness for a swap but theres nothing around here. Other projects were delayed so this whole engine swap thing looks like its going to have to wait. We always have multiple vehicles so not having the Yaris for a month is no biggy, plus I dont have to worry about payments etc.

I havent done much with it since the wheels since an engine swap was in the works there really isnt a point to buying a header, exhaust etc - only thing Id like to add is the Tein Coilovers.

My next Yaris goal is to have DOOR SILL PROTECTORS imported from a the US, an American dealership I guess.

They are no longer offered up here in Canada (seriously annoyed at that!), so I'll hafta see about importing, but the one I found on ebay who sells them wont ship them to Canada. Ugh.

Eventually I hope to figure out this situation. Its already costing me more than I want to pay (than it should), bc I'm buying in Americans dollars and they are listed at above the price originally sold for up here, AND I have to them shipped to me.

Such is life... but I REALLY want these damn door sill protectors. They are such a nice, classy, hot touch/accent to any car if you ask me.

I will probably add plus one size tires and wheels. I also have a pretty nice after market sound system which is currently in my daughter's car that I am also considering installing, as long as it doesn't require cutting up the interior.

Flat Black S Sedan
Low Pro Wing

Tien Coilovers (various other suspension mods)
Bride Front Buckets w/ Matched Interior

Far as Performance goes, I'd like to have around the mid 100s at the ground. Nothing crazy seeing how the power to rate ratio could be fantastic. Still trying to decide which route I would want to take.

With that, I think I'd have a pretty stoute and mean looking Yaris.

My custom clearbra is there to protect this 100%-Japan-made car. My heart goes :brokenheart: if I see a rock-chipped mark on the bumper/hood. If I really see one then I can say... "Joe, you did the clearbra... you did your best already" Don't feel bad if you are not getting a Jap made car because Toyota is about to produce their economic line(s) in China around 2010.

I am glad you see there are us-people in U.S. who are bone-level-JDM here. I am nothing to compare with my friends in Southern California, and I am sure they are here watching our posts and getting good laughs already. There are strong JDM dudes will do everything to convert us-JDM cars to a true JDM level. (I also hope you get the joke when everytime I use the "us" word )

Thanks again, Mr. vendor/moderator.

goals?

-Getting all four hub caps replaced, all four of them are scratched up from the curbs.
-Getting replacement for front brake-pads, the car has 60k (km) on it, so it's about time.
-rotating the new set of tires, hopefully this set will last longer then the originals
-patching up a big stone chip on the windshield, the other minor ones probably wont start a fracture.
-replace the broken clip that holds that driver side floor-mat into place.

Stay tuned, I'm sure I'll have many more 'goals' in the near future since I'm putting on about 70,000km/year on my 07 Yaris. Perhaps my next car can relax in the driveway while being lavished by all the priceless add-ons, but my poor black Yaris can't afford the luxuries and has to work for a living. :frown:

I plan on repainting my car every couple of years or so. Beats clearcoating and waxing it so much, and you can change a colour if you so wish. Its also an opportunity for the body shop to iron out any door dings, trolley dents, etc.

I just plan to take care of my baby Jade (that's what I call my car) and use it for daily commuting to and from school. I'm just a new driver and I got my license like two weeks ago and my Yaris is a "gift" ^_^

Oh, I was planning to have it repainted at first but then again, I did not get the Bayou Blue one..

To me,
New_paint != JDM
New_paint != Original
Clearbra = I did my best to protect a Jap-Made car.

Help~~:help: I need to fine cure for my JDM illness.

Move to Japan?

Sigh... here is how I did my best on that.

I usually take 3 weeks vacation there in a year. In that 3 weeks, I can kiss-kiss-ban-ban all JDM toys if I can afford. I either bring things back by myself or ship things back before I take off.

In past years, sometimes things went out of control... things like
$1500 G-Shocks
$1500 OE Foglights
$11000 Tom's SC Kit
$600 Zippo Lighter
$800 Tamiya R/C
$3000 Panasonic 2Lb Notebook
$2000 Navi/Dvd Head Deck

3 weeks hotels and shopping... I did my best on trying to fulfil my JDM living. I did my best... cuz I guess if I stay 1 more day there, I might end up broke in US, and there won't be next vacation there again.

Moving there? I am trying that everyday... ; I need to work harder here so I can retire there. Nothing wrong for me to go back to my culture.

I'm down with JDM. Enjoyed a bit of that with a friend of mine and his GSR Teg. He's still not finished and is always depleting the bank account.

JDM!!!!.......fine for the folks wanting to follow the set pattern given by the cars mother country. Myself I like to think on my own....not a restorer....make the improvements (whether others like or not) that fit me.

Ahhh, Wanting a 4dr LB is pushing me over the age of sanity. I've started looking at the soon to be extinct xA. Just something about the shape of that vehicle I love, and I'm not a big fan of it's replacement either. It looks like a pug-nosed tank. Justly ugly IMO.

What to do what to do...

Lol, Yeah. I can be pretty indecisive sometimes. All I know is that my next new car is a Toyota made Compact/Sub-compact. :P

Forum revival lol. I'm hoping to lower mine with some new springs, paint my wheels white, get a tach so I know where I'm revving, muffler, sway/strut bars, cold air intake. Not sure what else but would like to get some more hp, so the giant hill I face going to and from work won't make me downshift anymore lol

For now I just wanna get back into one. Don't get me wrong, the xD has been extremely good to me, but a fuel-saving Yaris...

I'm on my second Yaris the 1st being a 2007 4 door and now I have a 2009 2 door hatch. It's used as my daily commuter. I'd like to add a new set of rims in the Spring and maybe cruise control. Without a doubt, these have been the most fun, reliable, fuel efficient and affordable vehicles I've ever owned. I look forward to driving it every day.

Oh, I have the TRD rear sway bar installed. Corners quite nicely.

My white plastidip arrived the other day, so excited to do my wheels but the weather on my day off wasn't ideal and I'm gonna be out of town for a few days which means it won't be another week and a half before I know my schedule and will be able to do them, assuming the weather cooperates.

$180 for an eBay turbo lol. Doesn't include any piping and probably has no boost, but hey its a turbo! Lol
