Yaris Automatic gear problem.

I have a problem with the automatic transmission on my 2004 yaris. When I'm stopped or at lights or in traffic, the gear goes into neutral and I can't engage drive gear. I turn off the engine, and after five minutes I can start again. This may happen to me a couple of times a week, or a couple of times after a couple of months. Anyone have the same problem? My mechanic couldn't fix the problem.
