Hi, I've been looking at some different stereo upgrades to my yaris.
While I've seen a couple of different ones, I actually prefer this solution. But looking at the hardware for this type it becomes too old.

So therefore I'm looking into this 9", with atleast 8core (cause then you get a more decent amp)

Does anyone have experience with this?

every bit of info ive found on the android and cheep brands is that unless your running thu an external amp as well that they are genuinly garbage...and even then "questionable" qualility with alot of screen issues
to honest..i dont think the market is there yet

Yeah, if you see the link I posted from aliexpress, the ones with 2-4 cores have a pretty bad amp, but the one from 8cores they can be quite decent, given the right setup. I know the chepa androids are beyond crap.

the cores only drive the OS not the amp....the problem is they use POS amps regardless of cores as the amp units are the actual cost in a good head unit....and most of the weight

Well yes ofc, but if you taken your time to look at the link as mentioned earlier, you will see they deliver different amps, according to different set of cores.
up to 4 cores = TDA7388
from 8 cores = TDA7851
TDA7851 is quite the upgrade from TDA7388

I just fitted a 7" version last week. 2G/32G version.
It replaced an older unit based on Windows CE, that was showing problems. Given how noisy the Yaris is, I wasn't unduly worried about sound quality. However, there is a set of RCA sockets available to connect an external amplifier if you want. The unit comes with HERE WeGo as the default navigation app. I found I needed to go into the unit setting to enable Google Play, then I was able to download my previously purchased navigation app already installed on my Android phone.
Be prepared to spend some time finding and adjusting all the settings.

Do you have any pictures of it in the car, and or details about the amp? you got? How does it sound compared to the original?

On the amp chips how many watts does each put out? TDA7388 puts out 40wx4?

Not so much difference in 4 ohms, but 7851 can drive my 2.3 ohm JBL speakers way better.
The datasheet says:
TDA7388
High output power capability:
– 4 x 45 W / 4 max.
– 4 x 26 W / 4 @ 14.4 V, 1 kHz, 10 %
TDA7851
– 4 x 48 W / 4 max.
– 4 x 28 W / 4 @ 14.4 V, 1 kHz, 10 %
- 4 x 72 W / 2 max.

My 65 year old ears probably aren't worth spending the extra money for an external amp and better speakers. Definitely more bass response than the original factory radio. There is a 16 channel equaliser built in, with plus or minus 15 db available at each frequency. The radio is FM only, but USB DAB+ tuners are supported. Also analog audio and video in
Being 7 inch, it fits in the original mounting space in my Gen 3. Sorry about the Screen reflections in the photos - The screen is quite glossy and it's raining here in Sydney.
This came with the necessary adapter cables including for the antenna. However, the wiring for the steerng wheel controls was on the wrong pins in the plug. These should be pins 6, 7 and 8 in the 20 pin plug, but they were connected to pins 7, 8 and 9 in the wiring adaptor kit.

Nice, thank you, do you have any site or details about the amp you bought so I can look into the spceccs? Thanks again for taking your time to post this.

I don't have an external amp on it. Just using the built in amp in the head unit. It's a Chinese unit sold under a number of different brand names. This one was advertised as being specifically for Toyota, so the front panel is the correct size and doesn't need spacers to fit the dash opening. Of course, here in Australia, the touch controls are on the wrong side of the screen. So it was important to fix the wrong wiring in the supplied adaptor cabling for the steering wheel controls.
Since I retired, I am only driving around 130 kilometres (about 80 miles) most weeks. If I was doing regular long trips I would most likely upgrade the sound system.
The main reason for the previous head unit upgrade was to provide a screen for the reversing camera. That unit was starting to fail, so I fitted this as a replacement. I don't have the equipment to work on SMD circuit boards, or I would have looked at repairing the older unit. It was cheaper to buy a new unit than to purchase the tools I would need...
The rear view camera is great for hooking up the boat trailer, as I can see the tow ball and trailer coupling on screen. It's also handy reversing down the boat ramp. I have a Hobie Tandem Island. It's 5.5 metres long. Boat and trailer are close to to 7 metres. All up weight is 360 kilograms, well within the towing capacity of the Yaris, but looks huge hooked on behind.
