View Full Version : Everything seats: sedan vs hatchback

I bought my 3 dr hatchback about one month ago, and one of the things that I knew it needed going into the purchase was a new driver's side seat. The side lumbar support (left side) has been chewed up pretty good, so perusing the lengthy posts about what options we Yaris owners have, I've come here for some timely advice.
While I could simply go to the junkyard and pick up a used seat, I stumbled across a post last night mentioning that the sedan front seats have height adjustment available. Was I sleep walking and imagining what I read?
I'm among the group of owners who find the original seats just fine, so while many of you have chosen the Rabbit, Scion xD, or other car to swap seats with, I'm simply looking for a straightforward replacement of my current seat.
Did I read the aforementioned post correctly about the sedan seats? My Yaris is the base model, and its seats only have the recline function. Height adjustment would be a nice change.
Can any of you comment about the difference in seats between the sedan and hatchback? Appreciate the feedback -

I've been around here for a very long time and can't recall anyone putting sedan seats in a hatch so there must be a reason since they are, in ways, a superior seat.

FWIW my seat has been slowly coming apart its not ugly yet but it will be sometime this year for sure
a "good" drivers seat is not something your likely to find...HOWEVER passenger seats are dime a dozen and cherry...you can swap the skins and foam from a passenger to a driver with 2 issues...first off the sewn on carpet flap will need to be removed, and theres 1 mounting tab thats "split" that would need to be cut to match.....otherwise the seat bottoms are the same side to side....i didnt dig into the backs but i would assume the same is true assuming it doesnt have any "controls" or airbags
all of that assumes you want to maintain pattern match of the seats to the doors...if not then ANYTHING can fit if you can weld and fab....ive been eyeballing TC seats as well as XB seats

I heard the xD are almost a direct swap, might need to swap a connector though. They have a bit more bolster than the Yaris’ seats, and a bit higher. Pic below is xD seats in Yaris, not mine.
I’ve been eyeing tC seats too, didn’t look into xB’s though. Would FRS fit with minor mods? I’m more worried about the airbag weight sensor than having to making a bracket.

ive yet to see a set of FRS with my own eyes to make any judgement
the XB and XD seats seem to sit on the same sliders and rises so id asume the "frame" is the same in them so if one fits they both do....i just recently saw a set of XD seats and they didnt seem to have much if any more bolster than an XB....and it sure "feels" like less than a TC...tc's have been falling out of the woodwork as of late

The xd seats are a direct bolt in for a 2010 hatch (pic was of my car)
Had to change 1 connector under seat for the airbags (no airbag light after so assuming they still work)
A little more bolster than the stock seat but not what I would call sporty
They do sit a little higher than stock seats
Also a bit nicer quality fabric and construction
A good easy cheap replacement if your stock seats are chewed up ( like mine were)

I'm only 5'9", long legs, short torso, I have the seat moved all the way back. I welcome the increased seat height.

While we are on the conversation of seats, has anyone on here ever put 3rd gen (XP150) seats in their 2nd gen? Recently came across some at the junk yard and was considering

I've got to ask what year scion xd seats swap into the 2010 yaris, I have a 2011 yaris and the driver seat is shitt. It's my daily and I don't want to spend $$$$ on it but i'd like to have none torn up seats. Thanks!

They only made one generation of xD. As far as I know they are all the same. They were made from 2007-2016 with no changes.

I have installed the driver side seat off an unknown FRS year module of marketplace for $100 bucks a seat. Guy ran outa Brz seats since heated seat would have came into the conversation.
I didn’t install it the proper way however it is in and bolted using the Frs frame and seat, just swapped the seat belt and wiring over. Frs seat rails are more narrow and longer so the back of the rails do poke out a few inches more than stock. I have a 2 door so doesn’t bother me.
Drilled into the frame for the front left hole and left rear is floating but will need to weld a bracket fit correctly.
This seat is a few inches lower even with the seat cranked to highest setting so if you are around 5ft 8 might take some getting used to as blind spots increased. Seat squeaks on the bolsters Hoever… it does feel really good and road and shift feel is more direct.
