My 200,000 mile drain plug washer is gone!

I just changed my wife 18-year-old Camry with 200,000 miles on it just change the oil. My son did the last oil change last year when I was in the hospital. He threw the drain plug washer out! He changed it with an official Toyota washer the kind that’s aluminum with blue coating on both sides.

I’m going to miss that washer. :cry:

Here’s the drain plug with the new genuine Toyota coded on both sides with blue stuff gasket. I replace it with a quick drain plug. You don’t have to use a wrench on.

i...i just cant bring myself to trust those "quick" drain plugs....

I was worried it might hang too low and be hit by something. But I don’t think that’s the case. The one thing I see about it is the hole for the oil to run out is maybe 1/3 the size of the hole the original drain plug fits in. It’s going to take a long time for the oil drain.

i know guys that run em on bikes and stuff too..and the idea will NEVER sit right with me..as its the life blood of an engine...a rock flying up just right etc is always possible..hell big rig rubber chunks

almost 130k miles and the windshiled took a bunch of rock chips yesterday while out and cracked all the way across this morning while my wife was on a run to the coast....so this glass joins your original washer

Hey, speaking of drain plugs. Do you guys torque your drain plug?

I try to torque everything. I started out torquing it to spec, 28 ft lbs, but after about 10 years it became pretty hard to crack loose, so I started torquing at 20 ft lbs. which was good.

I just changed my oil yesterday and the plug was a bit hard to crack loose. I am a little nervous about going lower than 20 ft lbs.

Any thoughts?
